Get a manual.:D That is what Toyota says when people complain about the AT. Toyota boasts that they are the only manufacturer that offers a manual option on a midsize pick up. Which is a great option to offer. I think Toyota only offers the 6spd manual in select TRD trims, because of the complaints over the 6spd auto.

I always find it funny when people complain about the AT transmission especially after they mod their truck.

Looking at your profile picture, you have at least added some armor and larger and much heavier wheels and tires than stock. And now you expect the transmission to perform properly for your modded Tacoma? Did you expect Toyota to engineer the AT to meet the needs of a buyer who might alter it and add a bunch of weight and aftermarket parts? It’s pretty simple. You mod your truck your going to need to mod your diffs to meet your mods. Don’t blame Toyota and bitch about the transmission for your decision to alter the truck. And if you weren’t happy with the AT before you added the aftermarket parts, then why did you buy the truck?

Anyone who decides to add larger and or heavier tires needs to plan on regearing. In fact regearing should be your first mod before you start adding any weight. You have to pay to play!

My 2020 Tacoma SX auto trans is borderline stupid. Never knows which gear to be in. And double down shifts all the time. Whereas my wife’s 8 speed in her rav4 seems to know it’s gearing ALOT BETTER. Any highway driving on cruise control and the Trans is constantly shifting. 6th gear basically does NOT exist IMO. I also have a 2013 WRX 5 speed manual. So maybe it’s the stick shift driving in my head. But either way supremely disappointed with the auto in the taco. I know I know. Everyone complains about it. Well it’s a legit complaint. It’s just constantly confused......

Mine wasn't bad at all stock. Then the TSB58 worked great. Now I'm on an OV tune 2.0 and its simply a night and day difference. Truck drives amazing, 6th gears is awesome. Search the OV tune, fixes all these issues!!!!! The overall tune put it right where it should be, shifts smoother, holds gears better and when it 6th gear it stays there. The tune is awesome, wish I did it when I first bought it.

I keep reading these posts how bad the 2020 automatic is. Either they haven't accumulated enough miles on their trucks, something is definitely wrong, or they are just crazy.

Does anyone know if getting a tune, such as OV Tune or KDMAX, would get rid of the shuddering in 6th gear?
