In October of 2020 I had the fuel pump recall done and yet as of today the tank needs to be dropped again according to my service writer. Since October my fuel tank with the recall has been dropped three times, the third drop is pending. I keep ending up with evap leak codes.

Do I consider having the truck lemoned. It's a 2018 with about 3400 miles or so and i'm the original owner. Do I press Toyota for endless bread sticks in the form of an extended warranty?

I was supposed to trade this truck off in October and the deal ended up not happening.

That's frustrating. And BS. I hope others who have gone through this similar can chime in.

First off does your state have a 'Lemon Law' and does this qualify? I had numerous issues (Not serious) with warranty work through my local dealer. I remained calm but voiced my displeasure firmly. Ended up having my truck fixed along with a $100 service credit, $100 bottle of bourbon and a tank of gas on the house. To me being a Karen is a last resort.

Of all the fuel pump recall our dealership has done, I don't think I've ever seen one come back. I'd have them check all the lines under the truck and make sure everything is connected in the right places and nothing might be damaged.

Itchyfeet, PM if you'd like regarding Lemon Law.
I have extensive professional experience in LL and may be able to offer some insight.

My state does have a lemon law. This is just beyond frustrating and my confidence in the tech that keep throwing this boomerang is gone.

I don't hate my truck, but i'm starting to think my truck was the lab rat for the first fuel pump recall done at my dealer.

I did fire off a polite, but firm email to the dealer expressing my displeasure. I totally get it that sometimes things happen , but the tank coming down this many times it just not something that gives me confidence in a service dept.

I agree, returning to the dealer three times isn’t too bad but there’s gotta be a finite amount of times before he should go at least Half Karen on them. Five times maybe...?
I’m definitely not a Karen, but I know some people only respond to squeaky-wheels......

How about letting another dealership do the work?

That blows. But I personally wouldn't let someone touch my truck for a fourth time if they couldn't get it right the previous 3. Tough spot for sure. 3400 miles is brand new if you ask me.

Evap codes sounds like they're probably not reconnecting the hoses correctly when they reinstall the tank. Or you have a leak in one of your hoses.

And if you're going to the same dealership and they're having the same mechanic doing the work every time, he's probably just repeating the same mistake every time.

See if you can get a different mechanic to do the work the next time.

I'd search the lemon laws where you're at and go that route. Then I'd get a new truck.

Time is money. Two times is understandable, three times is too many IMO.

I have concerns that maybe the evap lines were damaged during the tank drop and for all I know they were spliced or have some other half ass fix applied. The glory of flat rate

If they can't fix they should buy it and quit wasting your time......IMO this isn't even a Karen thing at this point.
