anybody with cooper at3 4s 255/75/17

Looking for anyone running the 4s in a 255/75/17. Im looking at SL tires. i really want a 265/75/17, or even a 275/70/17 but nobody seems to make it in a SL tire. Not enough tire sizes out there if you ask me..

 

I'll be watching this one too. From what I can tell, the 255/75/17 Cooper AT3 4S is the best height (32") for the weight (39lbs) combo available. In fact if I swap out my OEM Sport Rims and 265/65/17 Toyo A30's for the Coopers and TRD pro wheels, I'll not only be 1.5" taller, but also 3lbs lighter on each wheel vs stock. That's like losing 50 lbs when you account for rotational mass.

And, depending on what thread you read, should be possible to pull off without a CMC.

Also helps that the tire is exceptionally well reviewed.

From last summer when they were first installed and before I lifted. 17x7 4Runner takeoffs with +15 offset

 

ive got 8.5 inch scs sr8 wheels with -10 offset, so itll bring them out a little.. Im trying to find a decent 32 inch that will look decent, still be light.. I just dont need E rated tires.. there are some c rated that arent too bad.. but heck, Im running 265/70/17 4s now, and the 255/75 is taller, but lighter by 3 lbs. looking for that happy medium in a 32 inch tire.

 

Weight was definitely a consideration in my choice too. I’ve lifted since then and have been looking at 255/80 and the weight difference is crazy because they’re all E rated. Overkill for my use.

 

My dad recently took off some BFG KM2s and put on a set of these on his Jeep, running 255/75/17. He replaced the KM2s because he said he doesnt do "tough" trails and didnt want to deal with the road noise anymore (hes done a few trips through the Alpine loop, Moab, and various trails in Oregon)

Spoke with him the other day, and he told me he hit up some trails in Arizona that were so narrow and deeply rutted that the white lettering on the sidewall completely scraped off on all 4 tires, but there were no punctures/tears/gouges in the sidewall. No issues with traction either. He has no regrets switching to the AT3 and has me seriously considering them when they werent on my radar before

 

Apologies in advance for the comically predictable question - any rubbing pre lift? and how about post lift?

 

you’ll get no flak from me. No rubbing pre or post. I’m lifted on 5100s, 4th notch (1.5”) with stock coils/UCAs and I’ve had no issues at full compression. Just so you’re aware though, the AT3s are slightly undersized compared to other brands in the same size.

CrumbsXcountry, How’s MPG and road noise with this Cooper AT 4s 255/75/17? I currently have good year duratrac 265/70/17 on trd pro sema wheels but I am tired of the road noise and the loss of mpg.

 

No change in road noise with the coopers vs the stock A30's...basically very quiet and domesticated. I don't have good before and after data on the MPG's (and haven't gotten around to doing the math on adjusting my speedo to account for he larger diameter tire), but because there was no change in overall wheel weight, and the tread is not that aggressive (as indicated by lack of road noise), I don't expect much change there. It's possible that the change in profile of the tire could result in a change of mpg, but I'm guessing taller/thinner will be about the same as shorter/wider at the end of the day. Basically, the whole purpose of this wheel/tire combo is to get extra height, a better quality tire, and a better looking wheel/tire, with no performance loss.

 

I’ve been leaning toward the ST Maxx in 255/80 but keep thinking about these especially since I do a lot of highway miles. I want an off-road capable tire but would like to not kill my highway driving. See my post above about my dads experience with them on trails.

We’ve gotten some crazy weather here in central Texas with many areas getting at least 5 inches of snow last night. That, coupled with the fact the temps haven’t gotten above freezing since last Thursday has wreaked havoc on plumbing and created very different driving conditions than what we are used to.

After finding the in-pipe to the well house frozen despite being wrapped up, my dad decided to trek to town to see if he could get some parts which means a 45 mile round trip through back country roads with some decent hills. He had zero issues with the AT3s on the untreated snowy roads and even helped pull a car from the ditch.

Seems like lots of upsides to this tire....

 

I had mine in the snow/slush this weekend and they were great. Stay warm in Texas.

 

Saw some extremely rough trails and took jagged rocks to the tread and sidewalls today and these tires didn’t flinch.

 

At3 LT or 4S?

 

4S. Standard load. I purposely pushed them on this trail and was surprised how much of a beating they took. Would I have been more confident on the trails with heavy 10 ply LTs? Sure. Did I need them? No.
