One of the worst to work w/ is Spanish Cedar. It smelling acidic when ripping it on a table saw. It's considered a hard wood but on some of it you can make a dent with your fingernail. You have to use a carbide tip blade. Reddish in color with an open grain. I generally use it for working storm shutters and side tables for by the pool. It is insect and rot resistant. Some times you can find it on shipping pallets from South America.

I had some small spalted apple piece to try and turn but once I started reading more about it, I gave it away. People can have some serious reactions to the mold/fungus in them. I suffer with allergies so I didn't want to take the chance. I normally just use good quality dust makes when turning. I may get a premium respirator in the future then I wouldn't worry about the mold.

I saw that on a couple of YouTube videos. They also suggested using CA glue to seal areas.

A little tape goes a long way to prevent a harder clean up...

Can rub cutting board oil on the metal and wipe down with a rag and it helps remove the glue easier

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Sassafras leaves a really pleasant odor. It's hard to describe.

I have 6 of the Bora brand from woodcraft. They are marked down sometimes at Home Depot for $35 each.

I'm a hobby wood worker that only does like 2 major projects each year. I've been looking at jointers for a while. I never really find anything good on Craigslist locally. There's always a few older craftsman 4" jointers listed but nothing great.

I also have limited space and want something either bench top or small enough I can roll it out of the way when not in use.

I'm looking to spend less than $1000 if possible.

I've been looking at the small 6" rikon, and the larger 8" version.

I also looked at full sized machines from Jet and Grizzly.

Anyone have experience with these machines or opinions?

i use wax paper to isolate clamps from the wood during glue ups , especially with pipe clamps so there is no staining from the pipes

I’ve seen quite a few 6” jointers on Craigslist recently. Make sure you don’t get one that’s too short. When I find a decent 8” to upgrade to, I’ll be selling my 6” jet. It does a great job but for what I’ve been building lately, 8” will save me time.
