Transmission whining when accelerating

Yes , but you would have to take the transmission out and all apart .
Your truck would be down for at least a week .
Is this something you think you could do ?
You have a couple options .
Fix it yourself . An overhaul kit ... about $250 , a new torque converter $200 and a valve body kit $200
A second hand transmission from the wrecking yard with low mileage $400 - 800 bucks
Bring the truck to a transmission shop for an overhaul $ 2500 bucks
Crap , I hate being the guy that has to give you crappy news

 

haha all good, you gotta pay to play. i probably could end up fixing it myself or i might just get a new tranny.

I saw this thread and wondering if you ever got to the bottom of the problem? I have a 2001 2.7l 4x4 tacoma with an auto trans making that same noise in drive. I recently had a shop replace the torque converter after it threw the PO770 code and stalled the engine at a stop. Long story short, i've replaced the torque converter twice and the valve body once since the first issue. Now its making a whine in drive and im about to replace the trans pump unless i hear of other solutions. Looking for any info at this point.

 

the transmission pump ended up failing and i just got a used trans and slapped it in
