What do the bump stops look like? How much impact are they taking and are you bottoming out alot?

    yup.

Was running dakars with the super bunps that had the extension to ensure I wasn’t bottoming out. Also was running the nitrochargers. You would think if I was bottoming out the shocks would take the brunt of it first. However based on my “travel” tests when doing the bumps I believe I wasn’t bottoming out. Bunps stopped leafs before going into negative arch and before shock finished travel.

Again, I was running a pretty heavy cap with a rtt (like many others) and was doing some mild off reading (in my opinion). Figured with the stiffeners I would be safe. Something to definitely watch out for. The repair could have been as easy as getting a new bedside (easily done like putting on new fiberglass). I chose to upgrade.

Hey friends. I am working on my plan to run power to the SP for lighting and a fridge and all the jazz. I am not interested in solar panels at this point. Toss up between dual battery set up with the Valence Lithium batteries, and just buying a Goal Zero or something.
Someone in here runs those Valence batteries..... @nudavinci64 @gnardoggie @JasonLee
Im assuming you have to run them in the bed and not under the hood?
I have done everything else on my truck twice, this is something I want to get right the first time. I've been searching the forums all week.... if you have advice or links to threads or posts that are actually useful please share.

Not me. I just have an upgraded single battery (Northstar 27F AGM) that powers the Dometic CFX50 fridge and lights inside the Drifter. I have a NOCO GB40 jumper battery stashed behind the rear seat for if the main battery gets drained too far. I had the same battery/setup on the 1st gen and it handled that duty for over a year before I switched to the 2nd gen. Long term, I'll probably get some flexible solar panels stuck to the roof to charge a portable GoalZero 1500 or something if I do more remote work and need to power the laptop, phone and cell booster.

NOt I either but for lithium you can’t run in the engine bay. bed/cab as they do not like high heat. if no solar look into a DcDC charger like the Redarc bcdc 1225 and you should be good most of the time.

i am currently running a dual battery with AMG batteries set up from off grid engineering i have the bluesea MCR controller to connect them i might plan on upgrading to a redarc like @nudavinci64 suggested as it charges differently and also has built in solar options. I currently have power ran to the back seats and bed with 12v for my fridge and 2usb ports. Im still looking at options was planning on waiting till i have the camper to do any major changes.

I installed two ebay Valance batteries in my Drifter an year ago. I have some photos of my design in my build thread.

They have been working great. DM me for more details.

Nice after reading up more lately I’ll want to move to some lithium for the extra batteries. AGM is nice but a lighter battery would be killer and I could use the extra space in the engine bay. Nice setup. At some point I’ll need to pull and re-wire. Half of the truck wiring is out already.

I run a 70ah AGM in the bed with redarc.
Just depends on your use. Goal zero is a great option, I just couldn’t justify the cost for what I got. But it has its merits. Charge it at home, throw it in truck and plug in fridge. Depends how long you’re gone

I considered that too. I leave my fridge I and plugged in 24/7 dual 35agm, 200 watts solar, redarc charger and keeps the setup going year round. Been testing it this year since the truck never goes anywhere. 90-100% charge. We’ll see how it does over winter.

I've gone through a few different battery/charging setups and have finally found one that I'm very happy with. Right now I'm running two Powersonic 45ah Lifepo4 (very similar to the Valence brand batteries) wired in parallel in an ArkPak battery box. I have them wired to a 100watt solar panel (on roof), and the Renogy 20a Dc to Dc Charger. These sit in the back passenger seat under my fridge platform, which an extension to a small jumper box in the bed (has USB plug and 12v DC). I park in an underground garage, so I needed something that would last up to a week inside without the truck being run - especially now that I'm WFH.

There are a few different routes to go, all have positives and negatives. No matter what, if you are going to run two different types of batteries (deep cycle, LifePO4, AGM, etc) between your primary and secondary it's super important to have a charger that can adjust voltage and charge curve to match the battery need. I currently use the Renogy 20amp Dc-to-Dc charger.

-Lead-acid - would match your main factory battery, so no voltage curve change needed. Although, they have specific storage orientation, can leak (I think), and need to vent.
-AGM - these work great, but are super heavy and bulky depending on group size chosen. Require a different charge curve/voltage.
-LifePo4/Lithium - also great, super small/light, but are sensitive to temperature extremes. Require a different charge curve/voltage.

For sure avoid the battery isolator or smart isolators unless you plan on making both batteries match in type. For example, you could replace your primary with an AGM to match a secondary AGM - if so you can use a cheaper isolator to charge both (but you will still need a voltage booster as AGM requires higher charging voltage than a regular lead acid, so you need to trick your truck into putting out more charge voltage). The upside of the dc-to-dc systems is that you can match the voltage to the specific secondary battery type - for example my main battery is still a lead acid, but my LifePO4 charge from the alternator. The Renogy unit steps up the voltage and charge curve to keep the lithiums healthy all the time. At 20amp I can go from 70% to 100% in maybe 45min or less - pretty impressive.

I have my fridge on every day, also run lights, cell booster, random charging of shit (phones, walkie talkies, DSLR camera), heated blanket, and heated dog pad off of the LifePO4 on the weekends and I've never seen it discharge below 60%.

It's for sure not the cheapest setup you can get, but I killed 2 AGM before this by not charging correctly. It was time to spend the money to do it right.

I personally am not super convinced of the value of the solar panels over a good DC-to-DC charger - unless you plan on staying parked in one sunny place for a long time with a limited amount of fuel. Said otherwise, if your batteries get low and you don't have solar just run the truck for a bit and the problem is solved. The Renogy unit is about the same price as a 100watt panel and is simply way more useful (and about half the price of the Redarc).

Goal Zero and similar are great for portability and ease of use, but tbh if you are slightly technically inclined you can build a system just as good or better for half the price or cheaper depending on what features you need/dont need.

Mosley agree there. For me the combo of dcdc and solar adds all the protection. Solar alone wasn’t enough but the combo Has been solid. I leave the fridge running and parked all year when not in use. I plan to add an isolater in addition to dcdc but as you said only because of 2 AGM for emergency use for extra winch power or to jump the starter if needed. Saw the plan for the DCDC and Isolater on one of Red Arcs wiring setups. Also will be adding an inverter. I really want to get the red vision setup but prob should have done that from the beginning but they had not released it yet.

everyone relax here. If you camp a few times a year 1-xdays any solution willl work.

This is more for 2+ week trips. It’s overkill for weekend warrior status. Usually try to do 1-2 of those a year if work permits plus I love having my fridge on and ready 24/7

Except if you run just solar in the PNW ;)

Of course, if you only camp a few times a year then treat yourself to a nice cooler (or even a shitty one), a handheld usb battery bank, and you’re set.
