I really like the roof line, definitely a stylish truck for that time.

I'm not a engine guy, chassis is my deal but I think Dave run both. .003-.005 thou diff lash depending. I can't remember if there was a rule change but I know he was tore down at least a dozen times by Tech at NHRA events. SS is very very very secret shit. I saw the piston once and was told to expect a thud to the head if I told anyone what it looked like. Also lots of epoxy in the intake and heads..lmao

I think the rules changed in 85 but nevertheless, the car should have had solid lifters for 67. I just helped out with the 4 link and other back half work. Rick bought that car unmolested and gave it to Ralph and Dave, and said "cut it", and we did. LOL

There is one other sound I remember. Walking to school I heard a loud rumbling sound then the earth started shaking. At the stop sign was an orange 1966 Dodge Coronet. He turned down the street in front of me and I remember seeing a badge on the front fender that said 426 Hemi (I want to say I was 13 years old)

Goose bumps! I still get them. Especially the "chirp" of a good big block.

For sure, when I had my 1969 Ram Air IV GTO it didn’t matter how I finessed the gas pedal when it hit second gear the tires would chirp. Especially after I put the 12 bolt rear end in with 456 gears. I remember a nice summer day with windows down sitting at a stoplight with a cop sitting next to me. The light turns green and we left together, I was cringing knowing the tires would chirp so I barely touched the pedal. The cop timed his speed to mine and when the goat hit second gear a loud chirp my rear tires in-line with his drivers side window. He pulled up along side of me and I put my arms in the air letting him know it was uncontrollable. Pretty sure he understood as he looked at me then sped up and took off. Lol

Another time: A buddy of mine had some 10” wide slicks on his Max Wedge Belvedere. The car was sitting because he lost his license. He offered up the slicks to me free of charge. I threw them on my centerline wheels and drove them for a few months on the road. Another nice summer day windows down as I’m cruising out of a park a cop was coming in. There was a very deep dip that anybody without a 4x4 would have to slow down to idle speed in order to not destroy the vehicle. I’m coming out, the cop coming in, the timing was such that we were passing each other at the dip very slowly. He put his arm out of his window and flagged me to stop. We both stopped with our drivers side windows side by side. I ask him, yes officer. He points to my rear tires and says, are those legal? I act dumb and say, what? Him, the tires, my friend next to me was laughing as I said, yes, they have holes telling of the tread life. The cop looks at me and says in a stern voice, get them off the vehicle. I obliged and said I would. But I didn’t, I drove them for another month or so until one summer night i got caught in a very light rain as I was going 55mph. The car immediately hydroplanes and I spun a 360° barely able to keep it out of the ditch. Scared the shit out of me, the next day the slicks came off. It wasn’t worth wrecking that car over having the edge on 1/4 mile street races.

Love a Belvedere. This one belongs to Bill C. in Georgia. We took this car to the World Street Nationals in Orlando and had a blast. Didn't even qualify for "heavy" but had a front row seat to some great racing.
