Small Switch Adaptor?

Has anyone done this? If I were to get an inverter switch from a 2nd gen, will it just plug and play into the harness in my 3rd gen? Just found this post as I'm in the same situation - trying to find a way to fit the small front camera switch into the driver side panel.

 

No, you'd need to tap/clip the wires. The connectors are smaller/different.

2nd Gen

Terminals to the connector are 090/2.3II female. Much larger than the 0.64III of the 3rd Gen. But there are 090 terminals that will fit the wire gauge.

 

I use car solutions front cam set up and no switch. Mine works off the mode steering wheel control and the arrow up and down button to switch back and forth. Maybe that is an option.

 

If anyone is interested, I ended up getting the two switch panel from shapeways. This is what it looks like (still need to get a small blank)

 

It looks pretty good. There isn't as large a color difference in real-life - the camera flash makes it look worse than it is.

but the switch is the same size?

 

The 2nd Gen inverter switch is the same size as the space next to the Auto High Beam switch on post #44. (there it has a blank cover)

 

thats all I need to know!! Thanks so much! I’ve found a inverter switch from a 2nd gen with about 6 inches of wire and factory harnes plug. I’ll just have to cut wires and tap into mine.

Where did you find the 2nd Gen Inverter switch? Have a link by chance?

 

eBay. Had switch and 6” of original wiring from 2nd gen. Just used the diagram in picture above to wire it up. Works great. Did have to trim a little plastic off the switch to make it fit the 3rd gen hole good but just a little shave and it fits great.

Is there any reason to be concerned about the difference in voltage between the Gen2 (115v) switch/connector replacing Gen3 (120v)?

 

Nope, but I think the connectors to the switch are different.

 

I’ve run my 2nd gen switch since 2021 without any problems. I did have to tap wire and change the connector for the 2nd gen switch. But works just like the 3rd gen switch did.
