Raptor Liner Thread

So if you’re planning on lining the tops of the rails too, how long should you wait to pull the tape to get a good straight line? I did mine a few years ago and when I pulled the tape the line was all screwed up and crooked. Planning on redoing the whole bed, I’d like to do it right this time.

 

I waited about 30 minutes after my last coat. You want to pull the tape back over itself (like 135 degrees), and angling slightly away from the edge you are wanting to leave. Use high quality masking tape too!! I had very good luck with Frog Tape. Also, for good straight lines, attach at one point, and pull out a couple of feet of tape, and hold it taut, and set down on your next point. In other words, don't just go three or four inches and set that segment in place and then another short segment, and so on. It is much easier to get waviness like that.

 

I just did mine with monstaliner. Came out great.

Raptor lined my steps using the aerosol cans. I had a few heavy spots but for 8 year old steps I’m not too worried.

 

Please don’t take this as a divisive inquiry - it’s legit. How flammable is raptor liner - has anyone tested it fully cured? Doing some welding on my bed cage I saw that the previous owner’s spray-in bed liner is flammable af.

 

That's a very interesting point. It is very much like a layer of plastic.

 

Question for you guys that have done this before. I'm currently sanding my truck down, how aggressive do I need to get with it?
I'm hand sanding with 150, do I need to completely kill out all of the color or just scuff up the clear?

 

I just scuffed to get rid of any dead clear and/or color.

 

Thanks, another question. What air tank or compressor did you use to spray it?

 

I have a big twin cylinder, but most any size should work. More important in my mind is buying the professional spray gun, which is adjustable. Thin with reducer, if you want a surface that is not quite so rough I used 3 ounces per Raptor bottle.

 

Was hesitant to start a new thread and this seemed like the best spot…

Can anyone shared experience with putting Raptor Liner over existing sprayed in bedliner? The 2002 Tacoma in question has had the liner since new, and structurally it has held up well, but has faded to a dull charcoal. Would like to freshen it up when I spray my fender flares and skids.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

I haven’t done that before, but I have sprayed my whole truck and bed. From what I read, people who were reapplying bedliner would use a red scotch brite to rough up the liner than spray on the new one

LOL Paint is in too good of shape for that! Did you do your flares? If so, what steps did you take to prep them?

 

I sanded them with either 100, or 120, grit and I liberally sprayed adhesion promotor just before spraying them. Looking great so far

I also recommend using that promotor in the bed in hard to reach spots, helped me out a bit in the corners and under the side rails

I sort of did. 2 or 3 of them stayed on, the other fell apart. I think it looks better with them on, and it all popped back into place without issue. Although you might need some new fender clips
