Rear Seat Delete Decks

Mine was delivered yesterday, my plan is to throw her bed on the passenger side and attach a short lead to one of the unused bolts from the seat belts to keep her in the back seat area

 

I was hoping to maybe find a thinish bed on Amazon that i can velcro to the back or something. I don't want the bed too soft, then they can't stand up well on it. I also don't want the bed sliding around. And i want it to be removable

 

If you have access to a sewing machine you can add Velcro or loops to a bed to keep it in place. And I’d say a trip to a store with several bed options would work better than blind buying from Bezos

The dog bed I already had has rubber pills on the bottom to prevent sliding and stays in place on the deck. I first added a cross strap between two of the exposed seat hooks with a lanyard attached but that allowed too much slack so I just attached the lanyard directly to the center hook. You will have to get a little fancier with 2 pooches but you don’t have to get too crazy.

You should go into business. If you could match GG for price you'd sell everything you made. Or just a kit with all the parts pre-cut would be cool.

I was inspired by ExploreBackcountry to try something too. The only one that ever uses my back seat is the dog. Usually there is just gear back there, so why not remove the seat. I wanted something that would be simple to build and simple to remove if I ever need the seats back there again. I settled on a simple 60/40 deck, using the existing seat bottom hinges to fasten the deck down. It takes about 45 minutes to switch between the seats and the deck.

I started with 1/2" birch plywood because I had some leftover from another project. I cut it to 22-1/4" wide. The overall width should be 51", so I cut it at 20" for the 60/40 split. That provides enough clearance for the armrests once the trim is installed. I added 1x2 oak trim on 3 sides to act as a curb so things don't slide off the deck. I painted everything black and glued down some thin grey carpet to prevent items from sliding around. The wood is held to the seat hinges with 1/4-20 T-nuts.

A few people have inquired about additional road noise with the seats removed, but I have not noticed anything different. The exhaust still has the same old drone. I just have a ton of storage space now.

 

My driver seat is almost all the way back, anyone have an issue with a platform and dog crate that is tall as well?

 

inspired by this page I deleted my 40% seat recently, found some Russian white birch 3/4 plywood on facebook marketplace for $23 a sheet which they cut down to size for me, I have very few tools but put this together, did a bunch of sound deadening, and mounted a dometic CFX3 55IM - so thank you

 

Anybody try a 60% delete with a tilting fridge slide out the passenger side? I can’t figure out if it would clear the door when sliding out and tilting down. Thinking about building my own 60% delete and installing an AluCab tilting fridge slide large size but I’d hate to dump $500 and find out it won’t work. Don’t want to build my own slide... metal work fab isn’t really in my wheel house

I think that is more a function of what fridge you use. A smaller one would work where a big one would not. The rear doors do not open fully so a Dometic CFX 75 will not slide out far enough to be worth the effort. A smaller one would be worth it tho as it would come out far enough to actually access the compartments.

This is the one I’m thinking of running with a fridge in the 55-62 liter range. I’ve looked for a long time but can’t find anybody running a setup like that. Might be because it won’t fit
