My Taco hesitates for a full 2-3 seconds when it is first started in the cold. There are no clicking sounds during the hesitation, just silence. Once the truck is warm, it starts perfectly. 30-40 degrees is cold enough to cause this. Any ideas?

    getting there....
try turning the key over...but dont crank for a few seconds...maybe 4 or 5 seconds and let the fuel pump prime up. see if that helps.

Do you mean when you go to drive through first and second gear, it feels like there is a lag? But, once it warms up the lag is gone. I talked to a few other 2.7 5spd guys that say theirs does the exact same thing and has done it for years. If I warm the truck up on these cold mornings that we have been having, it does not occur. but, mine does it after the truck sits for 4 or more hours.

Im not sure I understand what you're saying. When I start mine in sub freezing temps it will start right up but kinda hesitate and idle at about 800 RPM for about 2 seconds, then jump up to the normal 1300 or so for cold idle.

Is that the same thing you're talking about?

When I start the truck - 1st turn the key over. I get complete silence and then it starts. This does not happen after it has been running for a while, only the first start of the day when it is cold. If there was a clicking I would suspect the starter.

so the starter doesn't even turn for a few seconds? It has to be electrical if that is the case.
