I found this harness plugged into my OBDII port and run under the kick plate to under the driver's seat. I figured this is a port or dealer added gps/data logger. I found something similar in my girlfriend's new Volvo in the spare tire compartment. Have others found this? I didn't know how to describe it and couldn't find anything searching.

Its a GPS receiver, among other things, that can also connect to the cell network. I have the same one on my truck as part of the remote start. It allows me to start it from my phone without being anywhere near it. Can also track my trucks location real time with it.

Probably used to locate the truck if it needed to be repowed.

Any FCC IDs on it, or under the screw cover?

[Edit, sure looks like it above...]

That looks to be it. I know my truck doesn't have remote start from the factory, my lights just flash 3 times after doing the lock button sequence. No engine start.

it does have an FCC ID on the back side along with several other serial numbers and codes.

Haha thankfully that is not the case but I see your point.

There are a few other threads on this. I think these are found on some pre-owned cars bought from private/third party dealerships.

    This is incorrect.
At least if you’re talking the actual toyota ‘mothership’ DCM unit.

no idea what OPs unit is.

I was lazy with my explanation, and you are correct.

on MY19+ everything runs through the DCM - including wifi, remote start, mic, and audio - if you’re using the Toyota App to do anything with the truck [trial or paying sub fee], or using the built in wifi, you’re using the DCM.
DCM tracks everything, regardless of whether or not you’re using the app, trial or paying for the privilege; as shown in the pic I posted above.

If you have some other aftermarket remote start system, it may not apply to you.
But MY19+ the DCM is always tracking, no matter what. It’s the SOS system and the mothership. You can ‘opt out’ of the SOS service, but the DCM is always active.

Toyota itself will always be able to locate your truck. That GPS in OPs post may be strictly a dealer/port tracker.

To add; as far as I’m aware, it is completely separate from the actual ‘black box’ recorder. But someone else may be able to verify that one.

I found something similar in my 2015 VW Touareg I purchased second hand from a Jaguar dealer in California. Mine was wired in behind the drivers side headlight with t taps. I recorded the numbers and left it in place, I figured if the truck ever got stolen maybe it could be used to track it.
