Do you still feel the DC-DC charger is the way to go? Thanks.

Yeah that's probably the best most logical option. I ended up using ovtune to change the alternator output voltage on the truck to 14.7v

So you would take your current setup and add in the charger or you would go with a different battery setup with a charger? I’m assuming the VSR isn’t used with the charger.

Sorry for the questions, I’m just trying to gather real world experience and opinions rather than a sales pitch when we’re talking a $1,500+ purchase for essentially some dc juice!

I'd still do the dual batteries again, but i wouldn't do the side by side kit because a lot of people report that sheet metal where the battery tray is will crack and fatigue over time.
But, I'd recommend a real dc to dc charger on top of the isolator to keep those batteries charged 100%. Mine stay around 97% using the updated tune. I don't see why you couldn't use a dc to dc charger and an isolator

Thanks. I appreciate it. I am kicking around all my options. Right now I am considering the Redarc bcdc 1225d, but unsure on where I will put my aux battery. I would like to keep them box under the hood, but I might look at building a battery box for under the hood.

I also like the fact that with the dc-dc charger you can mix battery types and sizes and use a solar panel.

If I would do it again, for weight sake, I'd do my secondary battery in the bed in a box that allows me to quickly take it in and out of the truck
2x g35s driver's side under the hood is a lot of weight

So I’m looking to add a lithium battery as an aid. What should I know about integrating this to charge while the truck is running?

After installing the OGE kit I think a powerpack like the dometic plb40 would have been a better fit for me.

You could trickle charge it from the cigarette lighter

Okay I have VFTune and I upped my charge volts to 14.5-14.7 around there. I have the redarc 1225d. Do I have to hook up the blue wire or will upping the charge solve the problem. I hope you have the redarc. :D
    thanks

The blue wire is used for a smart alternator. Changing the charge voltage won’t affect how you hook up the redarc

Third gen have Smart alternators so from what you say I still need the Blue wire connected to ignition. That sounds like a pain. Do you have any idea of another place to connect the blue wire?
    thank you

I tapped an ignition source at the cab fusebox under the steering wheel and ran it under the hood. I couldn’t find a clean option under the hood.

Thank you! That will get me headed in the right direction. Did you tap into a wire, which fuse?

I don’t remember which fuse I used a fuse tap on. I just used a fluke until I found a 12v ignition source.

Tapped the ignition fuse in the main panel. Not a difficult job. Drilled a small home in the bottom of the fuse box

Thank you guys for making this much simpler for me. Is the blue wire that is connected to the tap the same blue wire that comes from the redarc?

Were you not able to follow the factory harness out of the fusebox without having to drill a hole?
