I paid $300 for my first car but it was a piece of shit though. Had to put a floor in it along with door panels and seats too.

That what the owners manual converted the 1495 cc to.

No wonder so many old British cars don't have A/C! There wouldn't be any horsepower left!

I thought it quaint that it was so rigorous as to not round up to 1500 cc. Back then, Brits were nothing if not rigorous.

As it was even in Northern California we often had to turn on the heater to keep it from overheating in traffic. At least it had the sun roof for extra ventilation. Driving across the Salt Lake desert back in winter of ‘86 I had to put cardboard in front of the radiator to keep the temp high enough for the heater to work.

It finally died in ‘89. Tranny locked up and no parts available. It never stranded me anywhere but there were some close calls. I rebuilt the Weber carb a few times, replaced the gas tank, fuel pump, bath tub air filter and had the heater core soldered. Worst trip was driving to Oregon in ‘81 during the big January storm (39 hrs of rain), going over Siskew a pass the coil wire was loose(rotted Bakelite plastic on coil cap) and Tac was pegging in time with the wipers. electrical tape got me to my exit in Portland but had to have it towed the last two miles so I could fix it in a parking lot. Found a coil at the same used car lot where I found the tank(lucky to find an enthusiast). I’m no mechanic but that car was family, it was hard to let it go.

Looked up “Ford Cortina” and I think it looks like a European Falcon; Woulda been a fun car to put a 289 or a 302 in!
