Luckily, they paid it off. The check owed to me is the equity I had in the truck. My wife lost her job so I traded it in on a lease and cashed out the equity to pay off a couple of high interest credit cards we ran up with some emergency expenses last year. I know thats not the "correct financial decision" but with the times were in currently it made the most sense. Im not hurting for the funds but you are correct, they are making more money and im paying more interest payments on those two cards. So Im still getting the short end of the stick. Im waiting to get my money before the dealer principal and Toyota corporate get my review.

I would not let them off the hook. I assume all car salesmen are sleezballs until they prove themselves not to be. IMO, the minute you run my credit, the deal is done. I would tell them that now, and I would also tell them that I want money back as pain and suffering for a sleezball move on their part. I would also title every email to them "to: Toyota Sleezball Sales, we specialize in pick pocketing sold cars from our private customers to give our fleet customers the best possible deal. "

Yes it is. If the truck isn't an absolute necessity, getting rid of it and getting the cash out to pay off high interest money is absolutely the correct responsible choice.

Ive read all 21 pages of this thread and I have to say Julia, the OP, seems like a genuinely nice person trying to get what she deserves. I hope this works out for her. It looks like she is on the right track! Im betting her calm and collected demeanor is how she got the CEO and CFO of a large corporation on the phone meeting. Looking forward to seeing pics of the shiny new Cement DCLB she picks up in the coming days! GL!!

I was talking about replacing it with another $42,000 truck. Lol.

I hope they make this right for the OP. Getting the attention of the right suits definitely helps as does keeping a cool head. It was funny to see Magee Toyota in MA come up in this thread, I bought my truck there and to be honest they don't have a stellar rep either. If they don't pull through for you today, although it does sound like you are above this type of behavior, I suggest you send a 100 page black document to every fax number they have listed once or twice a day for a few months. Good luck Julia!

you are ignorant at best, worst you’re willfully blind. I can send my girlfriend into any dealer and she will absolutely be treated differently. Prices will be higher, optional warranties will be pushed harder, etc. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a female friend tell me about a car she was about to buy that I called or went in about and instantly got a better offer without saying anything about my friend.

that said, OP made one comment in here after another user suggested it. It sounds like you haven’t read the entire thread, OP is handling it professionally and without gender bias accusations.

You are definitely in the car business though: all this info yet obviously haven’t read any of it. Just want to push your sale regardless of appropriateness.

The problem with your statement, and what makes his statement correct, is the bad actors don't discriminate on sex... they take advantage of the UNINFORMED no matter what. My daughter is informed. When they try to take advantage of her she calmly puts them in their place. Here are a few markers they use:
    Is the person young?
Is the person ill informed on how the process works?
Is the person more interested in monthly payments than price of vehicle?
Does the person call a tire a wheel?

You get my point. If you know what you are doing, it does not matter because you can then see through the bullshit. Hey, I am a 58 yo male and I have been quoted silly prices and told BS too, until I showed them I actually know what I am doing.

Not all salesmen are like this though. Only the stupid ones who can't sell the right way.

I get what you are saying, but my experience says simply walking in and asking how much a car sitting on their lot is will net different prices if a female asks or a male. No chance for sales rep to know research level or expertise, yes those things matter a ton. But off the street with nothing else to go on, I have seen time and time again where females get different pricing than males.

Not at a dealer, but a tire store told my wife she needed tires real soon now. They were still on the car a year and 10K miles later when we traded. They did need replacement by then. And no, I wouldn't let her drive around on worn out tires.
I doubt I would have gotten the same BS story.

Youd be surprised. I wear my dealership jacket everywhere and constantly get fed BS and have them try to tell me "how the industry works". Ive been in the industry for almost 20 years now, I know how it works. Took my 2016 to a Firestone during a roadtrip for a flat. They told me I needed new front brakes and handed me a quote. I asked the technician and GM to escort me to the truck and show me, as I had literally put new brakes on the day before. Needless to say that GM jumped in the middle of the tech. Probably just for show since the customer called them on their bullshit.

a few years ago my dad and I replaced the brakes on his Explorer. A day later he got a flat tire. We limped it to the local tire shop for a repair. Young tech came out and told us how badly worn the brake pads were. We asked him how it was possible considering they were replaced the day before. Manager came over immediately making excuses how he must have mixed up vehicles etc. lol.

you will 100% be discriminated against more based on how you dress, act, or race, than by gender. anyone that knows anything about retail sales knows that women have all of the control in the transaction. if a husband doesn't want a car and the wife does, they will still buy the car. if the husband wants the car and the wife doesn't, they're not buying the car.
