I use blackstone often. Request some kits they send it for free. When you want to send a sample in you prepay online and fill out the slip they give you, fill up the tube of oil then take it to the post office. Postage is already paid for.
I have been running the ratiotek kit for awhile now. It is good, I will say the shifts can be a little harsh some times. Nothing crazy but not at all like the stock slushy shifting. You will feel the shifts sometimes, depending on the rpms you are going from. I will say it shifts harder with the hptuner tune than it ever did on the ovtune, sometimes when people ride with me they ask me if thats normal and I just tell them it’s the price you pay for quick shifts

I have found over time that shift solenoid replacements are a hit or miss. Most often their failure and replacement band aids a deeper impending issue within the transmission itself either in the clutch packs or the torque converter itself which will require dropping the entire doggone thing just to replace shortly thereafter. Trouble is, if you are already in there and the 50/50 chance that the issue hasn't created a domino effect throughout the rest of the system and you put it back together only to have the same issue again, you are out that much more money and/or time. (But hey, at least you have one or more confirmed new and working solenoids which you can transfer to a new or re-man unit, lol.)

Example: A Tundra with 150K miles was throwing solenoid codes for the SLU solenoid. I replaced the SLU and SLT for the customer to attempt to save him a few $$ on full out transmission replacement, however, his ATF which initially came out was BLACK. Like super ugly black and the guy was easily hauling an extra 1500-2000 lbs on the bed of his truck in tools and just junk. It was obvious that he did not perform a flush potentially ever on this thing. Despite draining out the majority of the fluid, the fluid continued to come out black after running it and checking to see if it was at level some time after driving it to ensure the repairs were done proper.

Anywho, long story short, everything was fine for MAYBE 5,000 miles after clearing the light. After that, codes came back but this time it was for torque converter and some other tranny related stuff.

In hindsight, the sting of the initial cost of a transmission replacement would had easily sent him on his way without requiring him to come back, but the lesson I learned here was, most often than not, the solenoids will not cure the issues.

Don't know why I am talking about that, but here we are.

Ah good to know I’ll have to request some. Trans fluid is pretty dark so want to get a read.

There is a bit of a compromise to be had for faster shifting. I have noticed harsher shifting as well. The equal to a manual transmission being rowed through its gears. Mine is even harsher due to the increase in line pressures which I requested to be dialed up in my tune, but you know what, I like it and I wouldn't have it any other way at this point. ;) I don't really ride with anyone else in the truck and those that do who want to say something about it can suck it.

    That's the original WS correct?

That's pretty standard color for WS ATF of that mileage. That's what mine looked like around that mileage, and since you wheel and have all that extra weight that's especially standard colored stuff there. Do your valve body, clean it up real good while you're in there from all of its dirt that is deposited on the metal of it and then do a tranny service 5,000 miles from then. That'll get you back to pretty darn clean.

The Durango issue came up 2 years ago and so far, the problem is fixed and the code I pulled, called for solenoid replacement. I know the clock is ticking and we;re slowly looking for a MINI Clubman S or JCW to replace the Durango. My wife is insisting on a 6MT, so who am I to argue... :burnrubber:

Sounds good. Good to hear. I expected it to be pretty dark. Was more worried about the trans hitting 300+ over summer. I’ve been cleaning wind the valve body as I pull it apart and planned to do another. Good to know on 5000. I was thinking sooner than that but that’s even better give it time to worn through.

move been wanting to try the spicy trans tune but was waiting to tackle this first.

Yeah you don't want the spicy tune until you are set to go truthfully. You CAN run it, but it is likely it would be hard on your clutch packs and potentially shorten the overall life of them.

Yeah, I can’t imagine going much higher pressure on my current setup, the truck is already a violent beast as it is haha. I feel like I need some solid mounts and make something to tighten up the driveshaft/axle. Maybe solid mounts would solve all of that though.

yep so enough. I have been limiting use of the truck until I get a few things done. Fan and fuel pump/filter work next.

I was thinking that same. some solid motor mounts and trans mount later on.

Solid mounts do help a bunch, but the work required to get it done on 4x4's is freaking stupid.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I'm hoping to change gears soon and swap out front and rear third members. I was thinking that may be the best time to add solid mounts.
What was the stupid part? Are you running solid motor and trans mounts?

I am more than happy with the current setup! It’s just one of those things where if I go full hammer quickly there is a lot if sop in the driveline. Not really a tuning issue at all, I know the stock mounts leave a lot to be desired especially once boost is getting introduced. If I roll into it everything is how it should be.

@12TRDTacoma Do you think solid mounts is something a DIYer can do or should I find some poor shop to drop the truck off at and say here ya go?

Honestly I didn’t think it was too bad. 3hrs for motor and trans. I think issues come with poorly fitting mounts. My DMZ ones fit perfect and didn’t cause me much grief other than it’s just tight getting to a few bolts. A good impact, the right extensions, Wobblies, and quality sockets and you can probably get it done. Probably a little worse than doing plugs with the sc still on imho.
