I only have a little experience with the shield but I've only heard pretty decent things about them, I was just curious why you thought it was junk.

    I'll add this -

As a revolver guy from way back, when I transitioned to the dark side several years ago, I bought a Glock Gen4. I have since acquired a Gen5 and my Dad's Gen3.

Functionally, they run very similar to revolvers - no separate mechanical safety. The thinking was that since I am used to how a revolver functions, in a high-stress dynamic situation, I could possibly forget to disengage the safety. I know practice will overcome this - I am just throwing out an additional thing to consider.

For what it is worth, I find Glocks very easy to tinker with. A couple of new specialty tools, and away I go! ;)

What’s the advantage/disadvantage of hammer vs striker fired pistols?

I have opportunity to buy one of these from a friend. Anyone have an opinion on either one?

I would lean towards the M9A3 but thats because I would put a suppressor on it.

A hammer fired gun may have a smoother/lighter trigger pull, especially if a good 'smith tunes it. The mechanism of striker fired is hard to make smooth, due to the design of the mechanism.

Not that the trigger pull is rough, just not smooth like breaking a glass rod.

For all intents and purposes, one is not better than the other.

Just want to be clear on the legal aspect of a SBR, pistol, or PDW AR-15. The lower needs to be registered as a pistol for me to be able to but a less than 16" barrel on it AND if I wanted to register it as a SBR later with a stamp? No stock or vertical grip. Also, I can't have an upper with a short barrel AND a functional lower from a full rifle at the same time. I believe the reminder is starts as a pistol can end as a PDW, SBR, pistol but starts as a rifle stays a rifle.

    Tried is the operative word.

This was wat resulted for sure. I'm still looking for it, I'm not sure where I stored it.

Hammer fired can have a nicer trigger, but often requires a secondary safety mechanism like a mechanical safety or a DA first pull.

Striker fired guns are much more suited to safety-less operation, in that they're usually drop safe (early Sig 320s are an exception here) and often require no manual safety to be drop safe. I don't recommend hammer fired guns to people as an only/first pistol because there's a bit more to operating them than striker fired guns where the only rule is BOOGER HOOK OFF THE BANG SWITCH. I made the mistake of going all in on a P07 because I was speshul and in hindsight I should've bought a Glock 19, 17, or 34.

    Use?
Range, competition, duty, or SHTF use P320 full size with the tungsten grip module and maybe a slide cut for a 509T.

Concealed carry, I would go with the G19, but only if those are my two options.

Picked this up today! Haven’t shot one since I was in the army 4-5 years ago. Went low budget as there’s a baby on the way. With all the chaos going on I started to get a better to have it and not need it

I hate Glocks. They feel weird in the hand, they're overhyped for reliability, they practically require new sights from factory, and I detest that "perfection" requires mods from factory and prompted the largest aftermarket industry in the US shy of the AR15 and R700.

All that said, the G19 in Gen 5 guise is probably the best handgun on the market, full stop. It is the only handgun I can recommend to 95% of people on this planet as being a solid choice, with useful capacity, size, and shooting dynamics.

Remember though, I'm just a dude on the internet, probably 13 typing this out from my mother's basement while chicken tenders and/or pizza rolls cook in the microwave. You'll have to try things yourself to know for sure.

Both the 19 and 320 are equally competent combat pistols. Accessories are equally available for both. The 320 is a transformer, as the FCU can be dropped into any sized p320 frame, so you can have one frame as a range gun, another as a battle belt gun, and another for a CCW gun. Kits are available to swap caliber, barrels and slides.

I own a 19 gen 3 and a gen 5. The 3 hides on a magnet as a backup pistol, while the gen 5 is highly customized with trigger, comp and RMR. I was a glock fanboy for a very long time. A bunch of pistol caliber carbines take glock mags, so there is cross platform compatibility.

I also own 3x P320s; M17, Xcarry, Compact. I will say that Sig knocked it out of the park with interchangeability of frames, slides and barrels. I like their stock trigger better than a stock gen 5 glock, and out of the box, I believe the 320 is a better gun.

I would go into combat with any of them, but if you want a truly customized experience without spending a ton of cash, the 320 is a better bet.

Speaking of cross compatibility use, try this on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObFAMLtARNU&feature=emb_logo

G19. I tried a P320 compact (not the x) when I bought my Glock and the P320 trigger was not great. I’m not happy that I have to replace the sights out of the box as @EubeenHadd mentioned, but compared to the P320c, it felt smaller, trigger was better, better aftermarket, cheaper mags

Hey bro-ski, new to the forum here, but an OG with handguns. The short answer is handle both and see which one you like better. Close your eyes, punch it out and look down the sights. The biggest difference between the two will be the grip of the angle and whichever one is more natural for you should be the one you choose.

That being said, the FBI torture tests the hell out of handguns before they choose the new sidearm to issue to agents, and most departments throughout the country follow suit. They recently switched away from the Glock 22 and gave every contender a fair chance. The only one that passed the test was the Glock 19 Gen 5.

The Sig is a good gun, but I'd say Glock 19 all day.

Also, don't discount the Glock 26. Won't be as easy to shoot, but much easier to conceal.

I've shot thousands of rounds through a cornucopia of Glocks and the rare malfunctions I've seen are usually more of an issue related to the ammo than the firearm.

I haven’t had a p320 in hand yet. But I have held the G19 a few times and it just feels kinda angular in my hand. The edges just don’t seem to ease into the right spots in my hands. But that said, I can get used to anything with time and handling.

I find comfort is often relative to whatever was in my hand just previous or just after. If you pick up a gun out of the blue, you don’t notice the subtleties like you do when you have six of them laid out in front of you. In that regard, I’d might tend to lean toward a more reliable or accurate gun than the “most comfortable”. So I appreciate all of your opinions and experience.

Check out the M&P 2.0c and P10C as well. Both have great ergonomics.
