I’d say just leave it, it’s going to cost more to go elsewhere, but damn.

Yes she has two sisters. One has no money and the other will be after yours. Let me know which one your friend would like to meet. I’ll set it up.

Worst case you can put the stock intake tube back onto the intake box, leave everything else as is, and very lightly drive it home.
The turbos will make noise but keep the rpm and load low they won't overspin.

This is a "my house is a few miles down the street" option.

Then, you can take as many pics and ask as many questions and I can help you finish it.

That's if it's really close or at least driveable with all the fluid parts oil/coolant all hooked up right.

Unfortunately, that's not really an option, the shop is about 15 miles from home, almost entirely a busy 60mph zone lol

Well I plan on stopping by there after work and hopefully I'll have some good news for a change.

Just struggling to imagine what is so difficult about cutting and welding one pipe like they were saying. I'm not a mechanic, and my wrenching abilities are pretty limited to bolt ons and following instructions and feeling comfortable with drilling and cutting as needed if the end result works and is within my abilities, but it pretty much stops there. So idk, maybe I'm not understanding something about what else is going into this but it seems super simple to me, especially when you've got guys in the local Toyota group doing whole ass engine swaps in their garages on their old 4runners in just a couple weeks while still going to work full time lol

When they decided not to reach out to @OVTune personally for help, i lost some faith in them. There's something to be said for people who are good at what they do and who are confident in their abilities, but are still humble enough to reach out and ask for advice. I hope it's done soon!

I mean, they did say they emailed him. Maybe they put in the wrong email or missed a period or something, because as you've probably seen, Mat said no one's reached out to him. Who knows

I agree with you though, about humility.

Good to see everything getting worked out. I was hit on this then when issues started I decided to wait and see how it went. I know that new orders aren’t being accepted until the back order and supplier issues were resolved, but just went to look at this again on OV’s website and it isn’t listed anymore. Just down temporarily or is this not going past the existing kits and 9 pending shipment?

As Turdhawg says he’s no mechanic and admittedly isn’t very good in this department and he managed to get it all done in a few weekends. At this point consider it a head start; take OV’s offer with his assistance and finish her up. You’d be really surprised how fast you learn to swim when you get tossed in the deep end (some def sink but you get the point). As you say, guys swap their engines out in their 4runners in a couple weekends; I’m that guy but only less time and i’m no mechanic, a while ago I started somewhere and before you know it’s a dozen swaps later, then complete top to bottom projects and it’s simply from reading, researching and jumping in, and soon enough you will learn not to screw things up. Just trying to give you some words of encouragement, even if you don’t have a background in mechanics. I feel too often people are intimidated by their perceived ineptitude to do the work, when in all reality it’s easily within their ability if prepped with the right bit of research, guts and correct set of tools.

It sounds to me like you’re skill level might be higher than the shop you chose. Or maybe the instructor is using your truck to teach his students/having them do the work.

Based on what we’ve learnt from the other guys, there should be no cutting and welding. A bigger dent on the driver’s side downpipe should be all.
Big thing is tools, this is usually the deal breaker. If you don’t have proper tools, find a friend that does. Nothing worst then going to help a friend out with an install and he’s only got a #3 Robertson screwdriver, a monkey wrench and a 5 piece wrench set.

I think the biggest factor for him was time. Even though he lost a lot of it w a shity shop.

I actually have quite a wide range of tools from various projects over the years, more than enough tools than what as required for the install.

Probably the toughest project I've done myself (well, with a friend) was a turbo upgrade with manifold upgrade on my mazdaspeed 3 that I used to have. But that was all straight bolt on too, straightforward. So given enough time and some knowledgeable friends, I would've actually felt decently comfortable tackling this install I think. My main obstacle was time and having a full garage at the moment, so I didn't want to have the truck ripped apart and out in the elements.

Similar to Ziggy, I am definitely not a mechanic but have tackled plenty of back yard garage projects including OEM replace/repair or aftermarket upgrades. Actually enjoy the challenge of DIY projects and knowledge gained.

Didn't feel comfortable enough tackling this TT kit project since I knew there was custom fabrication/modification required (went with a different size FMIC to accommodate my winch so need custom FMIC piping). Besides I have 3 small boys that would prevent me from having more than a couple hours of time to work on it each weekend. I'm sure there are many out there that can get this kit installed in a week or two if you have the right tools, time and skills. I commend Hawg, Bige and Meso for getting it done

Dropped off my truck with the TT kit at my local forced induction tuning shop yesterday. They specialize in custom fabrication and turbo set ups so I'm guessing they can handle the install. Smaller shop so I had to wait several weeks until their schedule opened up.

Told them that the kit should not involve major cutting but may require slight modifications. Compiled a list of potential issues and fixes that Hawg, Ziggy and others have shared on TW which hopefully speeds things along without appearing as if I am questioning their ability to do the installation.

Requested that the shop owner contact me if any issues so I could forward it to Mat to problem solve.
