265/75/16 on Stock Suspension

Did any of you have trouble with ABS wigging out when you went bigger?

My 97 4runner's ABS always triggered too early because of larger tires.

 

I have 245/75 16s on my 2012 tacoma. I plan on going up a lil bit to 265/75 16s. Will these work and not rub?

 

they will work but you will lose MPGs and performance from the truck

 

I did that with mine--no problems. The speedometer seems to be more accurate. My gas mileage is still well above what most are posting here.

 

No, you won't.

There isn't enough difference in size to effect fuel mileage or performance. Even if you go to an "E" rated tire. Those are all internet myths created by people who don't understand what is really happening. I have almost 200,000 miles on my '07. I've run 245/75/16's, 265/70/16's and 265/75/16's in both a "P" series and LT "E" series tires. Fuel mileage and performance are exactly the same as I was getting when the truck was new.

The speedometer and odometer vary as the tires wear down. With the taller 265/75/16's everything is accurate when the tires are new. But as they get near the end of their useful life they end up the same size as 245/75/16's when they are new and the speedometer is again off by about 2 mph.

 

I thought I lost mpg but it was due to resetting the ECU and relearning my habits with the skinny pedal.

You may notice similar at first. Over the next few months things will return to normal. 1yr in and I’m back to my standard 18.5mpg average.

 

2010 tacoma access cab with 2.7l 4 cylinder. I was told by the tire center at Costco that 265/75/16 won’t fit. That they will only fit on the TRD model. Thoughts?

 

the 5 lug, sure. All others, no.

 

Ask them the mechanical tire clearance difference between and SR5, Base, TRD, etc. Haha

 

I will say before I got 265/75/16 everyone on the forum threads said there would be 0 rubbing.

However, the Toyo R/Ts I got measure out to 31.9” and it rubbed pretty bad on my front mudflaps. Ended taking them off and it’s fine now.

Will also depend on your alignment but mine is great and still rubbed the flaps.

Otherwise, no rub on the fender itself at full lock and full stuff.

 

I'm running a stock 2019 DCLB OR. I just got some Method 704's (0 offset) with Toyo Open Country AT3's in 265/75-16 and mine also rub the front mud flaps when turning. I have some new suspension on order and plan to do the alignment myself, but I still may get some aftermarket mud flaps.

 

Mine didn't have mud flaps on when I bought it and when I installed some (Amazon specials) they rubbed at full lock so I just used some zip ties to pull the mud flaps back a bit.

I had 265/75/16 tires for over 100,000km. I lost 20 percent or more in fuel economy with the larger tires, and I regained it when I went back to stock tires. I average around 12l/100km on stock tire size, and around 15l/100km with the larger tire size. I accounted for the larger tire size when calculating fuel economy. It's not a myth, and I do understand "what is really happening".

 

Question on the bull bar in the second picture, what brand and where did you get it?
