New Toyo Open Country A/T III tire

Very nice. I'm mere days away from this too. What control arms are you running? I have pushed the LCAs forward quite a bit and I think I'll get away with no CMC. Do you have a screenshot of your alignment specs?

 

I'm on SPC Light Racing UCA. I push LCA all the way forward, then adjust the UCA and LCA to correct camber. Then I take it to my guy at Firestone for fine tuning with my lifetime alignment. I don't have a recent screenshot, but i'm usually somewhere around 4º caster.
I have about an inch to spare at the cab mount at full lock, but I cut off more than an inch, so it was necessary for my situ.

 

Did a little test run after the CMC , Pinch weld flatten and some plastic trimmed with the new 285/75/17 and had no issues.

 

Got mine installed. Here are the details, along with some photos showing off the before (top) and after (bottom) for a few different views. Hopefully these pictures help folks compare. I know this is a popular setup. But that is also what I like about it. Shouldn't hurt resale in anyway and just a bit different from the stock look while improving OR/wet/snow performance.

• Tires: 265/70/17 Toyo AT3 in an SL rating.
• Wheels: 4Runner TRD SEMA wheels (17x7)—ordered from BAM Wholesale. Great to work with!
• Lift: None, stock TRDOR suspension.
• Rubbing: I have not rubbed yet, but only drove it home about 5 miles. Imagining that I'll need to take off the front flaps, as others have mentioned.

Overall, really happy with the result. I hope to replace the lugs with black ones sometime soon and I feel dumb for not asking Discount Tire to use black valve stems, but oh well. These tires look far more aggressive in person. I also had DT transfer the stock TPMS sensors to the new wheels and re-inflate the old tires so that I can find them a new home.

 

Looks great! Pretty much the exact same thing I'm looking to do. I have a Cement OR with stock suspension and already have the T4R SEMA wheels, just waiting for spring before putting them on and still debating on which tires to get, but these Toyo AT3s are my current favorites. I'm also planning on going with the 265/70R17, so please follow up on whether you have interference or rubbing issues from the mud flaps. I have RokBlokz flaps on mine, but would be similar I'd think. I thought that size was supposed to work though without rubbing, even with the mudflaps? I'll wait for an update!

I just got Toyo AT3s in 285/70/17 on my taco with SCS Dark Bronze Ray10s. Only driven on the highway, but I was surprised at the smoothness on road. I'll have to update when I offroad with them.

 

Alright, I did a 60 mile loop today with roughly ~8 miles on a local trail here. Nothing insane, but there were some hard turns while articulating over rocks and moguls in the trail—Bunce School Road, Allenspark CO. Overall really impressed with these tires and I didn't notice any rubbing during my trip. I made some turns in a parking lot after with the wheels under full lock and didn't notice any rubbing on my stock mudflaps.

Edit: these tires ride really quiet to me, too. Maybe a placebo effect, but they feel much more planted on pavement, too.

 

There was someone in the Cement thread who put on the same size tires, but the Toyo M/T instead of the A/T and said he had to take off the front mudflaps plus do a bit of fender liner adjusting due to rubbing.

Sounds like we are good if we stick with the A/ T III though, from your testing? Did you take off the front mudflaps or did you do your testing with them still on?

If you have at least a 1.75 lift, you should have minimal to no rubbing with 265s. If you have a 3 inch lift then you could opt for a wheel with a 4" offset and 0mm to -12mm backspacing. I run a 3" lift and run a wheel with -12mm backspacing, thus pushing the tire away from the control arm. No issues.

 

All of my mud flaps were on. And no lift/stock suspension. I’m certain that I haven’t fully stressed the suspension/articulation so it’s possible they may still rub. In either case, it wouldn’t bother me to do some light trimming/molding.

 

Forgive me if this has been discussed (I tried searching multiple ways and couldn’t find an answers).

Can anyone running the stock 265/70/16 size comment on how these tires effected gas mileage in any way vs the stock Goodyears?

Just be careful and check that the tire doesn't contact the control arm through the entire range of motion (up/down and side to side). On stock wheels with no spacer the 285/75/17 tire contacts the UCA mid travel when you have a fair amount of camber dialed in on setting D. As you rotate the setting around and change the camber it will push the tire in or out and provide clearance. If you have spacers or wheels with different back spacing you should be good. But on stock wheels it's something you need to pay attention to.

PS: Shocks are due back on Thursday and I'll FINALLY be able to get this truck back on the ground!
