Toyota wheels on Chevy- lug nut issue

I always here people say that Toyota 6 lug wheels fit on Chevy vehicles, but nobody ever mentions the lug nut issue!

For example, a 94 Chevy Silverado uses 14 x 1.5 lug nuts. (thread size) A Toyota Tacoma uses 12 x 1.5 straight shank lug nuts. (the threads don't match)

If you use straight shank lug nuts that fit a Chevy on the Toyota wheels, there is too much free play inside of the wheel, because the Toyota lug nuts are 18mm (outside diameter) of the shank and the Chevy style lug nuts are a smaller diameter on the shank. The lug nuts won't center properly, and the wheel won't be centered.

I can think of 3 possible options:

1. Leave the wheels uncentered and with room for the wheel to wobble around if the lug nuts ever become loose.

2. Remount new lug studs (12 x 1.5) on the Chevy hubs so they will accept the Toyota lug nuts.

3. Try to find 14 x 1.5 lug nuts to fit the Chevy wheel studs that also have a 18mm outside diameter. (near impossible, I have looked "everywhere" for them!)

What are people doing to resolve this?

why are you looking for lug nuts? I put chevy K5 wheels on my old 4runner without a problem. When I got the TRD wheels for my truck, I changed the nuts from the long shank, to self centering lug nuts. You cant say you looked everywhere if you dont have new lug nuts in your hand.

If you are adiment(sp) about interchanging the wheels, you can go to a junkyard OR a dealer, and get lug nuts.

 

I've been to several dealers, and looked through books of lug nut manufacturers. Some things simply aren't made, now matter how much time you want to spend looking for them. I said that I looked "everywhere" (when things are in quotes, that means a person is exaggerating)

But if I can't find the lug nuts, I could always use spacers or new lug studs on my hubs.

Please send me the link for a place I can order those specific lug nuts. (14 x 1.5, 18mm outside diameter) since you seem to know where to find things.

I never really hear that Toyota lug wheels will fit Chevy 6 lug hubs or vise versa as far as OEM wheels. Yes they have the same lug pattern but that's about it.

Like the others said, sounds like you have a Chevy. Most Chevys use lugcenteric wheels with acorn lug nuts. Most Toyota alloy wheels are hubcentric & use shank lug nuts. Later Toyotas have a large hub so in order to mount Toyota wheels that are hubcentric that use shank lug nuts you will need to get a hubcentric ring to fit your application if it even exists.

There should be no reason for you to try and use Toyota lugs on your Chevy. If it's because the wheels use shank lugs, then get new shank lugs with the correct thread size but only if you have the proper hubcentric ring. Acorn lugs should never be used on wheels that use shank lugs.

Most people buy non hubcentric aftermarket wheels which uses acorn lugs to center the wheels (lugcentric). Most hubcentric aftermarket wheels will only fit Chevys & not Toyotas. Hubcentric wheels that use shank lugs should never be used on a hub that doesn't match the wheel.

The original lug nuts on the toyota are shank lugs with a 18mm outside diameter. (but they are 12 x 1.5 thread size) So there shouldn't be a problem if I use the lug nuts that are 14 x 1.5 if I can find them with 18mm outside diameter, correct? (I never considered using "acorn" lugs on these wheels, because they wouldn't come close to working) The only 14 x 1.5 I have found were smaller OD (approx 15 mm) Unless there is some type of lug washer or a shank style with an acorn at the top of the shank to center it, it seems like excessive space to use a 15mm shank in a 18mm wheel hole.

If the 14 x 1.5, 18mm lug nuts will work, then I'm back to my original question: Who knows where to find them??

I know that you (and most everyone else) knows what I meant. I was spelling it out on behalf of "wildjerseyfirefighter" I obviously didn't search everywhere, and thats why I said "everywhere" in quotes. I didn't expect anyone to make an issue about one word, but maybe thats just the type of person he is?

Hopefully we can all just focus on my question about lug nuts?

Buy Tacoma lug nuts .drill and tap to Chevy thread pitch.problem solved...buy hub bore spacer on Amazon or make them at your local machine shop

 

I will be doing this in the next month with these off of Tacoma

 

Excalibur 98-0002-09 lug nuts. maybe?
