How’s it going fellas I just purchased a 04 2.7 with a known no start issue. It turns over but no fire. My mechanic hooked his scanner up to it and wasn’t getting nothing out of the crank sensor. So we took it out and something is clearly hitting it and leaving marks on it. Have you guys experienced this before and if so what is causing this?

No it’s the right part. I ordered another new one and it’s exactly the same. Is it possible timing chain or something in bottom end has created a issue with this?

Not really seeing the results a bunch of sensors boxed wrong .

What else but where the sensor is installed.

Look in the hole where it mounts with a flashlight and bar the engine over and see if the tone ring is damaged or misaligned or something else that would cause damage to the sensor.

That’s what we’re gonna do tomorrow morning. My mechanic is thinking it may be damaged. If so what would be my best option? I found another engine the guy to the pan and accessories off. Then I was told I could use the bottom end out of my wrecked 96

Have to see what you find to determine the next step, another thing to check is endplay on the crankshaft, you could just have a bad thrust bearing on the crank.

Here’s a pic of the sensor, after looking down through the timing chain area it appears the tone ring is sitting cockeyed. I couldn’t get a good pic of it but it’s clearly not even like the lower timing gear. I’ve looked but not finding a tone ring kit does anyone know if it’s available BE653E49-1389-40C0-A3ED-CE77CD5F5F4A.jpg

Judging by that damage I’d say at least pulling the timing cover is in order... try pulling on the crankshaft and see if it moves back and forth. Maybe the thrust bearings are shot? Only time I’ve ever seen something grind a crank sensor like that

I should have cover off tomorrow it was time to shut down for today and watch some football. Could the timing chain having a issue cause this also? Do you happen to know if replacing the ring is an option?

Chain possibly. But I’d imagine itd make a racket.

why do you need to replace the o ring? Judging by the picture the sensor is damaged. But I mean. Yes you can replace the o ring. Harbor freight sells a nice set of o rings that might have one that fits

Ohh. My bad I read o ring.
I believe it’s replaceable but don’t quote me on that. You’d want to figure out why this happened before just replacing it though.

Well I was finally able to get back up to the shop. Timing chain gave and destroyed the tone ring.

No it’s still in time. My mechanic said it was the balancing chain

I’ll see if I can dig up the timing instructions.. replace it all if one failed. I’ll get them tonight so you have them.
