For the folks in CA @12TRDTacoma @Murphinator getting the truck smogged this week. Besides the visual is there anything I need to do or check so the ODB completes the scan? I’m pretty sure I’m fine but he was concerned with the tune which folks said is fine unless you turn off smog stuff. exhaust and emissions are all intact. Questionable visual but that’s covered

Just make sure your monitors are cleared and you don't have any pending or current codes in the OBD2 port. I can't help you on failing visual if you have some visual funny business in there. Otherwise you'll be fine.

Sure thing no codes or lights and good to go. I'm good on the visual I have that covered. mainly making sure it completes the scan and I'm good to go.

HPTuners allows you to check your readiness monitors in the VCM Scanner.

smog readiness right? any link or where to check that? I have always checked with my other scanner but HP might be better. I think my truck always says not ready but no codes.

Monitors are monitors. HP is no better than any other scanner at reading if they are ready or not bro.

Thanks dude. Looks like you have a little custom bracket to attach the rezi. I’ll probably just pull my tray and take a look once it’s all installed. Was maybe thinking of moving it to behind the rear seats anyway as I plan to throw an aux battery in there as well. Appreciate the photos though.

Yes. It will tell you which OBD2 Monitors are supported with the application, which are complete and which are not. It will also read your OBD2 codes as well as freezeframe data.

Open VCM Scanner. Then go here:

I am considering that or moving to the bed, really not a lot of space in the engine bay for this extra stuff.

Question for you guys. So all my electrical that I’ve done on my own has been easy and using fuse taps for power. Gauges, bed lights etc. My question is, I’m about to install a 32” led light hidden behind my grill with a switch in the cab. Do you guys think a fuse tap can be used for ign hot or should I just run the hot wire to the battery??

You need a relay unless you want the light bar on every time you turn the truck on. You have a switch going in for the light bar?

Yeah I’ll have a switch in the cab. I just did my under the rail bed lights and used a fuse tap for power to a constant hot to turn them on when I want. I have a switch in the bed cubby for those.

Not sure how many amps a light bar requires but most people use a switch and relay to wire them up.

To do it will require a fuse tap (low voltage and can be ignition controlled or not) through to trigger a relay with the other side of the coil to ground. Then a fused and appropriately sized wire from battery to the switch part of the relay. The other side of the relay contact goes to the light bar. Then ground the light bar.

Yeah do this. Don't melt a wire in the truck harness by trying to pull too much power tapping off another circuit only rated for XX amps.

I’ll do it right for sure.....I would’ve rather just ran the hot wire through a fuse tap instead of straight to the battery for a cleaner look if I had the chance. But you are right, it’ll probably be too much power
