you need to get on it!!! It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy. If you can remove the axle from your truck, rebooting it is cake

 

I replaced those rings with hose clamps. Works better IMO have had success with them on my wheeling rig.

 

I think my inners may have hose clamps from when I did the boot slide.

When I had it off to rebuild I preferred the OEM rebuild fit n finish

Good to know. And it's just laziness and other more important projects. I'm sure it will jump up on priority if/when the other side tears.

I thought about seeing if I could find people to donate their CVs with torn boots to reboot and resell. It seems that there is a lack of OEM rebuilds from Toyota and quality options are generally thought of to be hard to find. So it could be providing a service to members, save them some money over ordering a reman from the dealership (if they can even find them), and put some extra jingle in the pockets. I went as far as to reach out to someone on FB who replaced theirs, who said that I could have the old but then stopped responding. I haven't thought about that idea again until now.

Anybody got any old CV axles laying around that they want to donate? Would there even be a market for that?

 

I was looking under my truck and the passenger side is about done as well. So I ordered both inner boots from Toyota. They should be here tomorrow so hopefully I'll have time to fix it and go use it again this weekend. Oh and I did go the OEM route.

 

If you are going to go to the effort to change the inner boots, you may as well completely rebuild the axles, new outer boots and grease as well. It's not that much more effort.

 

I may tackle that but I also have to replace passenger side wheel bearing. I work 60 hours a week and drive 100 miles a day round trip. So a lot of what I do depends on how much free time I have. I did that drivers close to two years ago. Now this one is roaring. I'm sure creek crossings, mud, and clay have something to do with that issue. Haha

 

Just to be "that guy," if you work and drive that much, it might be wise to take the extra time and do the full rebuild so that it is totally fresh and you don't have to redo it down the road.

Also, on the wheel bearings, I went the Dorman route because of cost, availability and warranty (12 months). If I could do it again, I'd order from @05Taco4x4

 

I have a koyo bearing. I I do keep it up as much as possible. I want it to last me a very long time. That's what's so good about these trucks. I dont know another vehicle I can put tons of road miles, load the bed with home improvement stuff one day, then have it in woods the next. Gets decent mpgs for what it is, reliable, capable of anything I need it to do. A 70 series land cruiser pickup is the only vehicle (from a factory) on the planet that I would say is better.

 

X2 on 70 series. I would own one too if it was in the cards.

 

Speaking of what you own your list of trucks sounds awesome. I want to see your collection some day. Haha.

I think walmart will mount tires for $15/tire.

edit: just check, it's $10/ per tire extra if you didn't get the tires from walmart.

There's all sorts of random hole in the wall tire shops that will probably do all them for $50.

This one on google is local to us and gets good reviews. Id call them and see what they can do.

but walmart will give you free rotations if that is your thing...

 

Anyone running one of the Tw members made seat spacer/jacker whatever you call it? I’m 6’ ish and have a back of an old man.... wondering if it would help. Seems like such a minor change wouldn’t make much of a difference but reading down some threads others swear by them?! Anyone coming to mod day run them?

 

I have em. They are amazing. I'm 5'11 170lbs with a blown out back. They are super helpful. Especially on long trips.

 

Which vendor did you go with... reason over others?
