That used to be crazy dangerous and people got hurt a lot, they would ignite photo flashes using explosive powder that the photographer or their assistant would have to ignite

And here we are nowadays complaining about LEDs in halogen housings (I hate them too but still)

I think I was separating the upper ball joints from the UCAs on the flatbed. Heated and beat on those arms for hours. Eventually needed an oxy acetylene torch.

I removed the 1000w fixture and replaced it with a new bulb socket and Phillips Hue LED bulb. You can control it with your phone, pretty cool. Gave the modded one to my friend for Christmas, she loved it.

The other two I use when I work outside at night. They are ridiculously bright.

Hmm you could probably make money doing that for people down here in the film biz that have tons of those stashed away, make them useful again.

I’ve taken like... three classes in photography. The last one was taught by a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist. Every single class, they always say:

    “Never use flash”

    Those lights are sooooo convenient.

I use those all throughout and let google home control them.

People that don't use flash or try and teach others not to, only say that because they don't know how to properly use one.

It's like photographers that advertise themselves as "I OnLy UsE tHe LiGhT tHaT nAtUrE gAvE uS"

aka - I'm a shitty hobbyist who never learned how to use flash properly

natural light has its place of course but anyone who says 'never use flash' has a very limited understanding of photography

In the context of photojournalism I can only imagine/hope that teacher was trying to discourage people from using flash at first - learn to use natural light then learn when/how to supplement with flash. Plenty of award winning photos in journalism where flash was used.

I can't properly fade myself like I used to back in the day; I tried it months ago and had an area in the back I never got right so got discouraged.
