Weird that it makes a difference on mine.

Agreed. It all seems very inconsistent which is part of what makes it so frustrating.

When I got my 2020 Tacoma in March it would not climb over 2x4s chocked at all 4 wheels. I tried again yesterday after reading about locking the rear locker and it climbed the 2x4s. haha I was pretty surprised. I unlocked the diff and it still climbed just fine. So I put it up against a standard size curb and it was able to climb that as well. I tried all speed settings, and they all worked. The only thing different to my truck is that it has 265/75/16 tires, and 10,000 miles. I don't think that has any influence over the CC but everything else is stock.

I think all variables should be considered. For instance, my engine was warmed up by the time I tested crawl control the first time, and everything was fine. The 2nd time I don't think it had been running as long, and I was unsuccessful in climbing a curb.

The 1st time I attempted I had not flashed any tune to my truck, while the 2nd attempt I had flashed a tune.

Was there ever any resolution to this? My truck has the same issue--certainly doesn't perform as the marketing material describes. I've been to the dealership once and was told nothing is wrong with. I happen to know the tech and he said that the truck had no codes and worked fine in the parking lot. I showed him videos of the hill issue and the truck just "sitting there" in very shallow sand wells. He told me that it's messed up verses previous model years but they weren't able to find anything wrong. I've been back and forth with toyota corporate and have been told they won't do anything unless the dealership identifies a problem. Any thoughts/resolutions/or things i can tell the dealer to get this corrected?
    Thanks as always

In my 2018, crawl control would immediately disengage if I touched the accelerator or the brakes with it on, but it was mountain goat style, it just would not stop.

In my 2021 with crawl control engaged it will stop, but in my 2021, I can use the accelerator and brakes, and crawl control stage engaged.

They definitely made a change. As of now I like the change, but that's just me.

Toyota changed it or not wouldn’t really matter to most off road owners because majority wouldn’t have even have to use it unlesS you’re buried in deep sand or going down steep rocky sandy trail. MTS is more useful

Seems like it is an inconsistent issues not affecting all trucks, which makes it perplexing that Toyota doesn't formally recognize it. My 2020 was built in Texas in March, and seems to function inconsistently when engaged in the first setting, the rest of the settings work fine. I have found that the steeper the grade is, the better it seems to work in the first setting, but once there is little stress on the drivetrain, it will, again, not consistently, disengage at times. Once I figured this out, it has not been an issue, safety or otherwise. Where I actually really love the CC is with descents, where I don't have any issues with any of the CC settings. I do believe that there was a change made with earlier models, whether it is a software issue or hardware is unknown, but I suspect it is software.

I have a 2021 OR built in Baja 12/20. I am having the same issues. If I am going up a steep hill the Crawl control will slow down, stop, and drone for about 20 seconds. It then shuts off. Has anyone had any luck getting this issue fixed on theirs? I read all 23 pages and only saw one guy getting his fixed with the new software release.

When it stops, give it a little throttle

I have but isn’t the whole point of it to not give it more throttle and just allow the computer to control wheel spin and traction?

According to all of Toyota’s documentation literally everywhere you are correct. All I can suggest at this time is for you to call Toyota corporate and file a complaint since it doesn’t work the way all documentation states. I have called and so has my father and I believe at least a couple people on this thread have done so too.

Tested the CC couple times off road to see how it works and it was fine up and down a mountain. Been doing fine without it and the truck is able to handle most obstacles. I've been using the CC more often now since it helps out a lot and I can use the throttle and it won't disengage the CC CC.jpg

So my '17 might be traded in for a '21. Is the consensus that you can now apply a little gas to resolve stall/stop (which formerly fully shut CC down apparently?)? This is one of the few things that is holding me back, my CC works fine on my '17 but the offer I was given (without going into details) for a '21 is very tempting.

It will continue and not stall if you give it gas

I posted earlier in this thread that my ‘21’s CC works great, just like the older years if my locker is engaged too. I’ve tried it several more times along with the locker and the CC consistently works on any setting. If the locker is not engaged, I must throttle it sometimes or it gives up.
