My wifes Rav4 has a lot of similar features that your wifes CRV has. We traded in a CRV for the RAV in 17. Some valid complaints for sure, but comparing between like vehicles seems they are closer than they are to a Tacoma.

Also, I don't get the remote start complaint about Toyota shutting off the engine upon entering. Ok, so you have to hit the engine start button and away you go. In the Honda you say the engine doesn't stop, but, you have to hit the engine button and go...

What's the difference? It's the exact same amount of work to go in either one.

not bad.. they didn't ask to a cancel the season, so they got that going for them.

Now, have you tried turning your truck off, waiting 10 minutes and turning it back on? maybe that will reset the adaptive cruise so you can use it under 30...?

Big companies like Toyota spend a TON of money on market research. Guessing they determined the bulk of their target Tacoma market doesn’t care about those features. I know I give zero shits about most of them.

Don’t go on here saying anything but the most wonderful comments you can think up about your Tacoma, or the mob of middle aged oversensitive fanboys will dogpile the fuck outta you, lol. I agree OP, the tech in our Tacomas is great... for 2010... not so much for today. All the other things about my Taco far outweigh the half assed tech shit tho. And some of the things the OP mentioned wouldn’t even cost more money for Toyota to have done better , like the USB placement, the engine staying on (after remote starting) if say the key was at least in the vehicle when you put it in gear, the cruise control to stay on under 30 mph, etc... Face it, Toyota’s creature features are pretty meh. But their trucks will go forever and go anywhere, and that’s why we choose them over a fuckin Ridgeline.

I love threads like these can easily sort out the younger folks from those of us who grew up without all the nanny stuff to make our lives oh so easy. Now I just need to find some high tech that will go to work for me while I stay home and collect the paycheck.

I'm nearing 40 and my first car was a 4cyl wrangler with no a/c. I finally traded it for a 4.0 with a/c and I'm sure someone somewhere would have given me shit about "needing something soft like cold air." What's so bad about desiring innovation to make our lives better?

I'm just grateful they moved the position of the clock. I have a 1st Gen as well and the damn clock location is the most annoying feature.

Op, we were a Honda family till I bought mine. Having an older crv myself I almost bought the wife a newer one but far TOO MANY problems with their tech. Most of my comments are "user preference" of course, but thought I'd share my POV.

Not sure what year you have but usb doesn't effect anything unless it's a giant fountain soda (also usb ports in console if you look).

Auto brights are a joke in these though, TURN THEM OFF (button to left side of dash)

Personally not a fan of LED headlights. I prefer the warmer light of halogen because auto makers still use the wrong color spectrum output leds. Totally personal preference there of course.

I was trying to avoid lane departure till I learned toyota doesn't try to drive for me. To me the auto correction for lane departure is dangerous in traffic or emergency maneuvers because the wheel fights you. We had a 2020 pilot loaner while my wife's pilot was in for a tub, hated that thing. Rather drive my 2003 crv than new Honda with all that crap.

I'm kinda on the same page, but there are times when remote start would be beneficial for me. But it's a few times a year, so it's never even been a consideration to look at installing an aftermarket remote. When it's sub zero, I'd use it to let the engine come up to temp a little bit before driving it (not idle for 20 mins so my delicate ass could open a door to 72° interior) Yeah I know everyone says it's better to let it warm up as you drive, and there is a lot of truth to that but it's different stating up at 40° and driving immediately and starting at -8°.

    First world problems and all.

I'm 100% convinced that anyway that calls someone a snowflake is in fact a snowflake themselves.

It's not the effort that it takes to push the button. It's the fact that its completely unnecessary to shut the engine off when you open the door. There's no valid reason for it to happen.

And I love these "old" people that think because they had it "hard" as a kid everyone should. You should go back to a carb, points and drum brakes (were half way there ). Probably walk up to school up hill both ways with no shoes too. :deadhorse:

As far as amenities, comfort and convenience, I think the top level trim SUV should win almost every time, because you’re not going to find a similarly equipped midsize truck.

My wife and I have owned multiple Hondas since 2016 (Fit, Civic, Pilot) as well as multiple Toyotas since 2014 (Camry, Highlander, Tacoma). We experienced many more problems with Hondas (fit/finish, body panel gaps, glitching infotainment, A/C, oil leak, VTEC solenoid issues). We stopped purchasing Hondas due to these concerns, although I miss shifting gears on a Civic, and picked up a Subaru Outback as a replacement.

These are both essentially top trims, tacoma with premium package, crv with touring. And the features I am talking about are offered on both. Just different ways of going about them. I'm not necessarily comparing the two different types of vehicles, but the technologies behind the features they both share.

I'm not bashing the tacoma for not having a power lift gate or rear usbs or anything. I get they have different options.

That is not the same. In all Toyota, when you open the door the engine shuts off, you have to re-start the engine, as in other vehicle, you push the button one more time to confirm key FOB is in the car and off you go, you don't need to restart the engine a 2nd time. Toyota does to all their cars with remote start, very annoying.

Because, in it's current form, the truck is a Tacoma as designed by Toyota who got all of their information on what was needed by the people who buy Tacomas. If Toyota started now on adding shit that only a few people wanted it would cease to be a Tacoma. Understand?

The CR-V is the way it is because, when Honda polled their focus groups, the features that are now on the CR-V is what the people wanted.
The Tacoma is the way it is because, when Toyota polled THEIR focus groups, the features that are now on the Tacoma is what the customers wanted.

This is how this shit works. Honda nor Toyota just goes off willy nilly and makes up features and designs. If they did, they would go out of business quick. They go to their target demographics and focus groups and question everything to make sure they hit the target buyer's buttons. Why? So they SELL MORE SHIT.

The people who want the Tacoma changed into a car or into a race ready baja runner are outside of the target buyer to Toyota. Or Honda.

Trust me... if all of a sudden their target customers started wanting a lifted Camry? You would see lifted Camrys in a few years. They build what their customers want, and the CR-V and Tacoma have vastly different target customers. Even Toyota and Honda have different target customers in a lot of places. There is overlap but there is a lot of differences in their customer base too.
    Let's not talk about Jeep...
