Check out the Roadmaster suspension setup too. The improve the ride even when not towing. Works great for towing almost no sag. I have a Grand Design 17MKE that is about 5,100 on a typical trip. Also have a huge transmission cooler and the OV Tune. Great setup for towing.

We took our third camping trip this last weekend and drove about 120 miles roundtrip - most of which was on major interstate in Texas. I was going 60-65 MPH and was getting around 11MPG. With the mods I've made to my Taco I average 21-24MPG highway when not towing.

Awesome rig! I know we paid a premium for the Winnebago name but the wife had the final vote. :) We looked at Jayco, Apex Nanos, & Forrest Rivers and probably would have been happy with any of them. Nice thing about the RV Industry is there is a floorplan and make for every family situation and budget!

I think re-gearing is next on the wishlist! Love the TRD rims on the OR as well!

I'm sure there's tons of other threads on the subject, but just since you mentioned it and seem happy, what addon Transmission cooler did you go with? I know the tow package cooler from Toyota is better than nothing but we want to take the trailer through the SW and desert towing probably could use an upgrade...

    Tru cool 4590.
Bought from here. Super fast shipping and great price. I has to make a custom bracket for the top. But just used some flat bar from Home Depot. Simple one bend into an L. I can get some photos if you need.

You getting excessive trans temps? You know they discontinued the trans cooler in the 3rd gens now, right?

awesome post! I’m looking to buy a trailer off a buddy it’s a 2013 Eclipse Milan lite 18 ckg and I believe it’s a 20ft. I just looked at my manual online for my truck and it says this but I’m confused on how to read this correctly since there are 2 different weight per model code. I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma double cab Baja series 4WD and all 3 of the model codes have a weight of 3500lb or 6500lb for each model code. Do I just go with the 6500lb?

GCWR = Gross Combined Weight rating
    TWR = trailer weight rating

What do the asterisks mean - read the footnote and it will probably tell you. *2 and *3

Until you know the tow capacity of your truck, you'd be wise to use the 3500 lb limit and the lower GCWR limit.

No I did not realize that, so my 2018 OR w/Tow Pkg doesn't have it? I'm going to verify with my window sticker but that blows. Temps haven't gotten crazy yet according to my OBD reader but my trips have all been in cooler weather, mostly flat terrain, and no more than an hour or so one-way. I guess trans cooler just moved to the top of my wishlist...

Thank you for pointing that out about the asterisks! I do didn’t even think about that smh... The *2 is without towing package and the *3 is with towing package. My truck will be able to tow 6500 MAX. I’ll feel safe towing a 3800lb travel trailer now.

This is a great thread as I’m about to pull the trigger on a Rockwood Geopro G20BHS. Comes in at right around 3500 lbs give or take.

    Thanks for the info!

I have a 2018 TRD off-road and pull a Grand Design 17MKE. It’s like 4800 dry. you will get yes you can and no you can’t. Depends a lot on personal comfort level. PM me if you want lots of details on my experience towing and extra equipment I have for towing.

Probably a very bad idea. The hitch weight is in excess of your trucks recommended capacity. Add on the WDH and you are another 85-90# heavier.
The dry weight will not allow you to add anything further to the tongue weight, let alone overall weight when you add in basic supplies.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Yes, most state parks it’s illegal to bring in firewood. And frowned upon in private parks. Fighting invasive pest transportation.
