I forgot I had this. I got bored over the summer so I went onto copart and inputted 100 tacomas of each year (2016-2020 = 500 tacomas) and this is what it came out to be. Its pretty accurate and I chose copart because its not biased like some car websites. I don't think the TRD Off-Road makes up 50% of all tacos

heres the raw data showing each year, stats for each year, and the overall shown above (google sheets)

The availability of the 6MT with V6 guided me, as that was nonnegotiable. That locked me out of a lot of trims that I would have otherwise considered. I did want the rear locker, but might have given it up for a 6MT in another trim if the price was right. In sum, my choice given my requirements was extremely narrow.

In my humble opinion, from the data above (post #22) seems like it would be pretty accurate. I do believe TRD combined most likely make up more than 50% of the Tacoma sales. The off-road and sport models from the visual view point on the road seem to be pretty close with perhaps a slight nod to the off road. May vary by region though.

Normally it is just one or two things that people require, out of the long list. That locks them into a higher trim.

For me, I liked the features of the Sport and the Offroad equally. The Offroad was less MSRP, which meant less out the door. And I hated the scoop on the Sport.
So the rest on the OR was gravey..

The Sr5 was a close runner up, Nothing on the Pro or the Limited made me want to bump up to those. It just takes a couple things.

Just 1% for the pro, really?

For anyone without a calculator handy I did the math for you. It translates to less than 25%. Don’t worry I took college level calculus so I know what I’m doing.

Ditto...mainly the scoop on the sport. I just don’t get it. Although if I had to do it over again, I might get the sport and trade it to some poor sucker on here along with cash for a regular hood

The 3rd gen limited isn't a really big deal, its just an SR5 with leather and nav with 18s.

4runners really made a big deal with the limited trim and I wish Tacoma had similar features, like full time 4x4, rear locker, flares etc.

My Son was looking buying his first truck in his life ,just out of college...work for two years driving his Dads’ 1999 Ford 4x4 Ranger extra cab...

Every one of his fishing & hunting buddies...said buy a Toyota truck..nothing else..

He went to the dealer ,to his surprise, the salesman was his classmate and friend...
He told my son who could have brought the limited...but said for your use...you are not going to like leather seats..
So his friend said the best Tacoma was the TRD-Off road.... His first truck, the ’ 2016 TRD-off road ..purchase new..just told me he finally made his last payment...Big Smiles..

Top of the line ..The Pro models...the numbers tells a tale..Not every can buy one ...Not everyone wants one ....
I was surprised how many people purchase the TRD-Off road models..almost half...

I always thought people prefer the hood scoops models.. if the TRD came with the hood scoop and the sport didn’t would sales of TRD be even larger?

I have a TRD Off road...I like the looks of a hood scoop...but I think it is better to have the crawl controls...and no scoop..
I hear some guys make the hood scoop functional...real air blow inside..
    Aloha,

The label "Limited" is just not good no matter how ya look at it.

"Yeah, I bought the 'limited' one instead of the 'unlimited' one..."

I can't agree with that. I see more SRs than anything. They are work trucks and you may not notice them go by. But they are abundant.
