    Hey there,

I recently installed a Baja Designs s8 40" light bar on my Prinsu rack.

I'm working on connecting the wiring to a Caliraised panel switch that I have. (I've also got some baja designs ditch lights wired up to another switch)

No matter which way I connect the wires, I'm not getting any output from the light bar when turning it on. I verified that the light bar works with the factory switches (both the amber backlighting switch and the actual switch for the light bar lights worked just fine).

    There's 4 wires:
    • Black
    • Red
    • Yellow
    • Green
I was able to have success tapping the green wire from the light bar harness into a add-a-fuse which I used for my raptor grille lights.

Here's the switch wiring (I'm using the switch on the right):

And the schematic for said switch:

    upload_2020-4-29_9-1-34.jpg

Baja designs says they should be wired up like so (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ess-to-oem-style-switch.611625/#post-23260821):
    • Black -> black
    • White (I don't have white, I have yellow) -> red 1 (the red wire next to the green wire)
    • Red -> green
    Here's it wired up:

    PXL_20210121_025253677.MP.jpg

I also verified that the switch should work - by connecting red1 and red2 to the red wire, the switch was successfully lighting up.

I tried basically every combination of wiring (except black -> red since that caused a few sparks when I accidentally touched them together) and none have seemed to work.

Anyone have any ideas how I might go about diagnosing this? I've thought about maybe trying t a new switch wiring harness as in maybe the black/green wires are dead.

    Thanks!

Could you post some context with this? I understand the left column but the blue and yellow don't exist on the switch, unless that's supposed to represent green and yellow. Also it's hard to tell what the yellow and red represents, red1 or red2.

Sorry, but that first picture looked blue and yellow to me. I understand that the colors might be slightly off but when nothing is working I wasn't sure if maybe there was something different that I was missing. I'm not too familiar with wiring.

To be clear, you're trying to replace the BD switch on the wiring harness with a caliraised switch? I just want to make sure you have a relay in the mix somewhere.

You're also using a relay, right?

OP, do you have a multimeter? It would be easy to test if the switch is good by checking for continuity.

I don't, although I should probably get one. Once I attempt to fix the wiring again I'll probably grab one, my truck is just filled with tools and wire strippings everywhere currently, lol

It looks correct to me which is why I'm asking these questions. My money is on a bad switch.

Oh does it? The diagram posted by caribe makaira made it look like it should be

    • red (harness) -> green and yellow (switch)
    • yellow (harness) -> red and yellow (switch) (red1)
    • black (harness) unused
Which is how I have it wired however I have black -> black which it looks like the diagram says is not used?

I wonder if maybe the two red wires are working since the backlighting and active lighting on it seemed to work, but maybe the black and green aren't? I've got another switch wiring harness that I can try out as well before I go buy a multimeter, so hopefully that gives some answers.

    It should be.
By using the black from the relay (harness) the circuit is always available. (battery drain if left on)
If the switch is NOT depressed and you still have an illuminated switch, the feeds to the switch from the harness are inverted.

Gotcha, so my wiring should be correct then. I'll have to check the switch and see if it's working then.

Would touching the red wire from the relay to the black on the switch (which caused sparking) kill the switch or potentially impact? That accidentally happened a few times and might explain it, otherwise maybe the switch just hasn't worked for a while.
