Maybe if you don’t mean any offense you should stop using words like “nerds” and “dumb.” This is a hobby and fun for a lot of us. It’s a hobby built on experimentation and tinkering. It’s people like you that are killing it. STFU with your virtue signaling and gate keeping. If you don’t like it, ignore it.

Everyday wheeling and overlanding comms is different than SHTF scenario. He cannot distinguish the difference between the two ---- and the fact that he says you need an antenna resonate just shows his ignorance.

Funny shit though. MARS got me thru the first gulf war war, I was in Kuwait, Saudi and Iraq ---- I was talking to my dad everyday via MARS.

It also gets you into the 151 business band to hit freqs like 151.625 "red dot". You're illegal at that point anyway, but pragmatically speaking from a SHTF perspective, why limit yourself on what you COULD hit?

151 also covers a lot of offroad race outfits like SCORE for the Baja 1000, etc.

Yes. I have a Comet SSB5 and it works with everything. It works very well! No ground plan required mounted to a Diamond Lip Mount on the hood. I did cut away some of the rubber liner inside the hood to make a solid metal to metal contact and applied dialectic grease to protect the bare metal. I am thinking of switching to a Diamond NR770HBNMO in the near future.

Race outfits like SCORE would have a biz radio license, so weatherman, etc is legal. But the volunteers they attract, well, that's a different story. See also: Rugged Radios getting an FCC notice. They're literally dechipped Baofengs painted blue.

I saw about that. I expected to see more collateral damage to Baofengs

I think theres just so many out there, all they could really do is crack down on new sales, etc. The supply does seem much reduced on Amazon, etc vs what it used to be.

Very nice!! I like the Diamond products. They seem just a bit higher shelf then the rest. Plus I wanted to match the lip mount to the antenna. ARe you running NMO mount?

Yep, its on an NMO base secured to the backing plate of an ARB single air compressor (uses 1/4 holes already) so it fits my Prinsu!

I can attest the diamond quality. I had my antenna folded but the wind sprung it up a little. Went tip first into the header plate above my garage while backing in. Put a good dent in the header, and bent the 1/16 steel arb plate up 15*. Antenna is straight as an arrow.

Thanks for the info. On another site guys were saying that 2m/70cm antennas don't work well on FRS/GMRS.

I use mine all the time with a Baofeng POS, adapter and Comet antenna that I have had for 30 years.

In a SHTF scenario, instead of modding my radio, I’m gonna go out and get some toilet paper!

(This post was meant as a joke in case anyone is interested)

Just bought a xeigu g90 today. Hope it’s half as good as the reviews. They say the built in tuner is amazing.
