I have read that Toyota recommends a 10 mile drive per month with 4 wheel drive engaged to lube the system when 4 wheel drive is not often used. Also, it’s recommended you not do this on hard surface. Do you all follow this advice and where do you do it?

Arrow straight road is just fine. As an alternative, there is @lapoltba 's 2Lo Mod (2LM) that allows you to run without the ADD actuator activated. This allows you to run in '4Hi,' but able to turn without binding.

Yes, it should be done. It's just logical, not magical.

It can be done on hard surface if you don't turn and cause binding. It can be done on hard surface if it's very wet/snow/ice.

4Lo is extra throw on the actuator. While 4Hi shows that it is free and happy, popping it in and out of 4Lo is a good idea in my mind. Also, with the sometimes strange 4Lo engagement, it is good to know how to do it repeatedly versus when you may need it.

I know my truck doesn’t like me to turn the wheel in 4x4 but do 3rd Gen Tacomas not have the ‘transfer case wind-up/binding’ problem when driven on straight, dry roads?
Previous 4x4’s i’ve owned said to only drive on loose gravel or snow while in 4x4. Is that not a thing with these newer trucks anymore?

The t case is like any other part-time 4wd and will bind if you turn. Before the 2LM, I did not experienced any issues with 4Hi on pavement on a straight road only.
