    I have mods
Yup, that was them. I have confirmed their findings with my sliders too, which I got from them.

    Explain

Both my 4 runners have the best turning radius out of any car I've driven including my camry, my dad's bmw, and brothers jetta

They remained the same after getting aftermarket ball joints/tie rods that are the same part number autozone sells to tundras and sequoias

3rd gen 4runner outer tie rod connects in a different spot on the lower ball joint than on the 1st gen Tacomas, which is why the LBJs aren't interchangeable unless you also swap OTREs

Some say the 4runners turning radius is different than the Tacoma's for this reason

I have new OEM upper and lowers in my spare parts bin that I'll be ready to let go when I start tearing into the Tacoma

In aware but in my experience 3rd gen 4 runners turning radiuses are second to none... Nothing crappy about them

I think he just means compared to his previous Tacoma.

I've never driven a T4R so I wouldn't know, I have no complaints about my Tacoma's turning radius though

Ryan already replied; the tie rod ends mount differently which is why 4R's have their own part numbers for both the tie rod ends and lower ball joints.

I'd be happy to buy the LBJ's from you asap; if you decide to let them go that is.

    @Running Board Man

On second thought, the turning radius could actually be better on the 4R than the Tacoma.

Anyway, bottom line is that between the two vehicles, even with the same suspension, their turning radius differs because of the LBJ and TRE differences.

so whats a method to check for bad upper ball joints? Jack the truck up, grab hold of the spindle and try to move it to see it if it stays put or has play?

How are the boots on the upper?

Hell, I've seen uppers boots blown for a long time with no ill effects...

On the stockers, when mine have been very bad, there’s movement.

Honestly if they’ve been on for a long time I’d just change them, fairly quick job.

They're the SPC boots so they always have grease coming out the bottom, since they get greased every 10k or so. They are messy SOBs

I'll probably just replace them due to age/mileage anyway and keep the old upper BJs as trail spares. The ball joint portion should be pretty easy to do

That yielded no signs of wear when mine were out the only way I found out was when they clunked while turning in reversing as I hit a jagged bump

    On a stock tacoma though

Did you use a c clamp on your ubj to remove from the spindle?

I keep forgetting to order one.

...and what, your wheel detached lol? I'd rather spend a couple hundred bucks and replace the ball joints than figure out they're bad by losing a wheel
