Tighten the screws?

 

The gap is more toward the end that clicks together.

When will these restock, all colors have been sold out for awhile.. I suck at waiting lol

 

My key blade came out of the flip fob today. Is it broke, do I need to buy another one. Originally when I put it together I use thread locker and made sure it was tighten down. Never expected the blade to come out.
Anybody have this happen to your fob, what did you do to fix it?

Mine has flipped out a few times. I did my first round of thread locker and I'm monitoring it. Going to try superglue next. After that I might try a longer retention screw and drill a hole through the blade.

 

Anyone try buying a chip instead of gutting one of their existing keys? If so, where did you get it? I prefer not to ruin a key.

I have 3 spare OEM H keys which can be used for transponder and internals if someone has access to techstream. Bought more than I needed and probably not going to use all of the remaining 3.

My only problem is that they have so many transponder chips that I don't know which one is for my Tacoma.

 

If you don't take up @daveeasa on his offer, a few of us just bought used OEM keys off eBay. You should be able to get them for $20-30. This costs alittle more than a chip, but you also get the OEM button internals as well. (There were some posts that the aftermarket buttons didn't fit as well or the tolerances were slightly off)

 

I bought what I thought was a pair of H keys from eBay, however once I got them open I realized that one had the wrong internals. Luckily the guy at the locksmith shop traded me chips for an extra one he had, so everything worked out. Just be careful with eBay.

 

Yeah that’s what I got. Six used (cut) H keys matching my FCC ID for about $180 so $30/key. Had a hard time finding singles and I thought I’d want a second. Sold two to friends, used one, sitting on the rest for now.

This approach only makes sense for someone who has access to TechStream though. If you’re going to a locksmith and paying for the programming then they probably have a transponder they can sell too. Swapping the electronics is easy.

I flip flop on what I prefer. The product is really cool but with the semi baggy shorts I wear I find it sometimes opens in my pocket if I’m working on wires and then it’s less comfortable than the H key. I also more regularly lock the doors by mistake taking the key out of the ignition which then immediately unlocks because it detects the fob inside. That plus the blade ejection add up to a delicate and thicker than OEM solution. Having one is super cool but adding a second for a total of 4 keys might be a tad excessive.

 

I just checked and this is what I bought and it worked for me: Texas ID 4D74 Letter H 128 bits Ceramic Chip. I think it was $5-7.

 

Anybody have any issues with a button sticking when using a minimalist fob?
