What's up guys just bought bought a 2018 Tacoma SR5 with 20k miles on it from a Toyota dealer. Its not a used certified. Well while driving home I noticed vibration in the steering wheel, that is really noticeable at highway speeds and while braking the whole truck shudders. Well after looking at the service records, it looks like the first owner had been to the dealership 6 times with drivability and "brake" concerns. The last time being about 3 months ago, where it looks like he traded it in. So I am thinking they just didn't fix the issues and sold it to meupload_2021-1-21_19-27-14.gif I've read through the forums and the various fixes for vibration issues, but it looks like they tried to fix it but never could. I am sorry that my first post is negative but I am not sure what to do, since it isn't certified used and the dealer didn't offer a warranty. What should I do in this situation? Is all fault on me for not noticing it before i bought it, or should they help me out since they might of sold it knowing something was wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. First time buying a car from a dealership so I am not sure what to do.

EDIT: Also in the service notes its had the vacuum pump replaced twice and the lifters and rocker arms replaced? these motors don't have lifters? do they

What are the laws in your state? My state has a 3 day buyers regret on all contracts except used cars.

Dealers usually sell their used trucks with a month-3 month warranty where they'll fix anything. Check to see if you have that first, if so get it fixed. If it's really annoying theres I think a 3 day period on new and used cars where you can take the truck back and get in everything you invested into it. Well least in NJ there is

Are you sure it's not under the original factory warranty. Mileage is low enough just have to check the date is was first put in service.

    1. Are the tires/rims hot after driving a few miles?
    2. Have you gotten the truck onto an alignment machine (if so post the alignment numbers)?
    3. Does the problem get worse at speed; if so what speed?
    4. Does the problem get worse when you brake?
    5. Does the vibration go away if you put the truck into neutral?

Not much could go wrong with the steering... sounds like an alignment issue IMO (especially if it's speed-related), but it may be a stuck brake (unlikely), rims, or tires. I would rule out the simple things first.

Edit: Didn't read the part where OP stated the issue was with braking. Jack the truck up and see if a rotor is warped/inspect the brakes. Could be rotors or worst case calipers. The previous owner probably heated the rotors up and warped them badly. There's all that much that could go wrong with the brakes; cost or problem-wise.

20,000 miles and it was sold "AS IS"? A good lawyer would get you 2 trucks for that. LOL

yes has 11 months left on the 36,000mi warranty and has the 60,000 mi powertrain. But it appears that the dealer where i bought it from is where the original owner took it for service, and reading the service notes they couldn't fix the issues.

They said there was no dealer warranty, only the manufacture warranty and I bought it in Tennessee.

You have warranty from the manufacturer. Just a sorry dealer. Find a near-by manufacturer service center and get it looked at.

If they have a Toyota sign out front, they have to fix the car. I don't think there's a pick and choose on warranty repair. Climb the ladder man, this is good money and folks are phucking with ya.

Chattanooga or Cleveland should have large and reputable service centers. Toyota of Knoxville is good for me.

Could be alignment. Or maybe the PO hit the brakes hard enough to warp them. Maybe both. Either way, a mechanic should be able to find the issue.

To recap: A Toyota dealer sold you a truck that still had a warranty and in the service notes wrote, "We can't fix this". If it's under warranty, bring it to a different dealership and KEEP all of your documentation. If the problem persists past the warranty's expiration, having documentation proving that you attempted to have Toyota fix it is imperative. Not much can go wrong to cause a vibration, especially if its brake related. Don't worry so much! Have it looked at somewhere else and enjoy the truck.

It's got to be under the warranty from Toyota still I bet. As was said, check state law if not..
