Interior Tacoma Question

I will start by saying that I am new to the site. Hopefully this question won't be too dumb. I bought my 21 Tacoma about 1 1/2 months ago. I am struggling with the drivers side left foot pedestal. I didn't think much about it when I bought the truck but since then it bugs me a lot, especially on long drives. I have had problems with my left foot over the years (planter fascilitis, etc). I am just having trouble getting used to it. I am 6' tall and have adjusted my seat every which way possible and it still bothers me a lot. Has anyone ever tried to change that area somehow? No power seats. I have the poor mans version but it's a nice truck. Once I figure out how to post a picture, I will add a photo of my truck.

 

What exactly are you having trouble with. Is the dead pedal too hard? Too close? You could try bolting some sort of knob on it to put pressure on your foot

 

The dead pedal is too close. I want less pressure on my foot. I wish I could get rid of it.

 

sounds like you are saying it is in the way? if it can be removed that's what i would do.

 

If it's the dead pedal or left foot rest thing. I was messing around in the Kickpanel and noticed mine was just a block of hard foam behind the carpets.
Maybe you can trim it down??

 

That is what I want to do, get rid of it. I was wondering if anyone has ever done that before and how you did it.

 

I haven't looked behind the carpet. I will take a look. I thought it was metal.

 

The only issue with taking it out is the carpet and floor mat is molded to fit around it and it might be weird after.

 

Crazy question, but are you 100 percent sure it's the dead pedal and not the seat position? Would tilting the seat forward or back reduce weight on your foot? What about changing positions? I drive with that foot constantly shifting position for comfort. Sometimes it's on the pedal, sometimes its flat on the floor.

 

I have played with every position possible. Tilting the seat back helped the most but it still annoys me.

 

I agree with this. Is the dead petal any different than those on any other vehicle? They are usually just plastic spots on the left of the brake or clutch.
I found that I got terribly uncomfortable on long drives as well, due to the low seat and high floorpan. I read about the brakets you can buy to raise the seat up and help with that. I also realized that my power seat can already raise up. I haven't gone on a long trip with the higher position yet to see if it helps. I drive normally with the seat low, as I'm tall and have a shorter ceiling from the sunroof.

OP, I'd check if the seat raising brakets (can't recall the brand) helps put you in a more comfortable position to relieve your pain.

I also have the SR and like not having electric seats, but some people say the seat is too flat and the front spacers make the seat lean back more. I think from reading reviews it is mostly shorter people with the problem and taller people don't like the risers as much. There is a whole thread on them by the guy who made the product here if you search for seat risers.

 

Front blade oscillating saw. Done deal. Molded carpet will find its home.
