I’ve been lurking this forum for years. Bought my 01 SR5 Taco going on 6 years ago now. It’s a champ. But I drove a long commute for a couple years and the suspension is toasted so are the tires.

With that being said, instead of replacing the worn out replacements I want to get some lift and ideally 33” tires.

My use is mainly street with the occasional camping, dirt road and forest trails. Nothing extreme like mid or high needed however, I don’t want to cheap out and just buy spacers. I’m a welder/fabricator and plan on building my own custom bumpers and bed rack (ie., will this lift work with the additional weight, rtt, spare, trail gear etc.,).

I need some solid reviews from owners with the OME nitro charger set up. Also to answer these questions.

Is it nice on the street?
What weight spring rate are you using?
How long did the nitro shocks last?

Also, if you know of a similar great 2.5-3” lift set up I’d like to hear your thoughts.

I have read the listings in the search. I want some reviews from people who have thrown some miles down.

Stick with a 2" or at most, 2.5" lift.

Tons of people rave about their OME suspension, not much else to say. There's even a dedicated thread if you so wish.

But going back to the lift/height is because if you're 4x4, you'll run into issues with CV angles and at the very least, go through cv axle boots like it's nobody's business.

That and the higher you lift, the bigger the need for aftermarket upper control arms. Some are adjustable, and have the additional caster required to properly align your truck.

King ex travel, JBA UCA’s, All Pro Springs/shackles, Locked, all new poly bushings & rack, SS brake & clutch lines, ext bumps for starters.
I just got a lift and went with King ext. travel up front and either JBA or Total Chaos UCA’s (have both) and all new bushings up front along with EXT. brake lines F&R. In the rear Fox 0-3” shocks and All Pro springs with new bushings, Exhaust and brake proportioner extension’s. I Went with General 285/75’s AT’s on Raceline wheels. Should have it finished next weekend when I get back from work.

Will 2.5” clear 33” tires? Seems there is big opinions or the spec of trucks differs from the factory. Some work, some don’t.

What option is there to adjust the cv? Are spindles the only way?

Nice, that’s a killer set up. I’ll probably end up building my own control arms eventually.

Well, you just apply less additional ride height to keep the angle's closer to stock.

Same suspension, and same tires, won't net the same results on two different trucks.

With 33's though, you'll have a better chance to clear if they're skinnies, but also with the pinch weld mod.

This is what I was building on the past couple years instead of the Taco. I just sold it last week. Moving and need the funds + wanted to start modding the Taco. Now I have the funds for both however I have some serious sellers remorse. Was my dream truck. I will build another one though.

I’ll probably be doing all the brakes, exhaust, lift, wheels and tires at the same time. Also plan on undercoating the taco with RP-342 if you haven’t heard of it you should have.

Being a welder/fabricator, I'm surprised you don't just do a solid axle swap.

Mainly, don’t want to have to rebuild a front end lol. Maybe eventually, but I know in doing an SAS the truck would be down for a bit too long. It’s also my daily. If I buy something else down the road that’s for sure a possibility. Right now though just want some inches and tires.

In the summer I can ride my shovelhead to work. That would be a good time for a SAS. However, I need some tires and suspension in a bad way. It’s bone stock with 210k

I had a 79 GMC Jimmy, 350 small block 4x4 automatic. Body had some serious rust issues, but the frame was solid, and I overhauled the engine, brakes, just about everything I could think of. Ran like a scalded dog. Only down side was 8-10 mpg. I regretted selling it, but gas was getting expensive. Now that I have a 1st gen DC 4x4 I feel better.

I have an ome lift with 883 coils. Feel like it rides like a factory spec would ride. It fit 285/70/17s with just a little cutting of the plastic fender liner. Maybe the size of a quarter.

ha. That thing is rad. The stance is awesome. I would be pulled over immediately where I live though. Guys can get away with 2” sticking out past the fender wells. Anything more and they start busting out the tape measure and ding you for anything they can. No joke. A few years back went mudding on some trails and as we are pulling out of the trail a cop pulls my buddy over and writes him a ticket for having too dirty of a vehicle. It’s only gotten more ridiculous. That’s partly why I am moving ha.

yeah, I built a fully built 500hp 383 Stroker for the Jimmy I just sold. Only put about 500 miles on it and also built the sm465 4speed I blew up the 700r4 the day after I finished the 383 :D.
