Just to make sure I understand what I’m seeing here- The bearing is barely making any contact with the Pressure plate ?

So, is the Exedy/Clutch Master PP for another application that should have a larger bearing? Any identifying numbers on it? I've been looking at the PP from the GRJ200.

Earlier on, while researching what bearing I would use with the Tilton hydro unit, I discovered what bearing CM was using in their kits. (It’s intended for a Nissan application) I quickly realized that it’s wrong for our application. Far too small where it contacts.

The pressure plate you’re seeing here is the pressure plate that CM had sold me along with their hydro bearing. In so far as the diameter of the opening in the fingers I’m showing here; It measures the same as an OE (aisin) pressure plate for this application (Taco/FjCruiser).

When questioned about the exedy stamping; A CM representative had stated that they were only using the stampings from exedy. Everything else was all CM. Just sayin...

Regardless. The clutch itself has been fine. Although it’s only got 5-6k miles on it. I’m debating replacing it. Just to be rid of CM all together. That’s another $600+ decision that I need to make.

I hadn’t really considered any sort of OE pressure plate. I don’t really have any info on the one you’re mentioning here for the LC. What’s cool about it ?

    Thanks for that info.

Full size Land Cruiser parts are frequently built to a higher and/or more HD level. It's possible it has more clamping pressure when compared to Tacoma level items. Might not be enough, though. Both have 275mm clutches. It's from the same vehicle as the T/O mentioned back on page 2.

Correct. The very outside edge of the bearing is catching just the very tips of the fingers of the PP.

This is probably a lost cause but have you reached out to CM with your findings that this part is not fit for purpose?

I can't say that for sure.

But, If you're running it with a CM clutch or an OE Aisin clutch, This is what it looks like in there.

They refuse to answer my emails. I've stopped trying to communicate with them all together.

The rest of you should certainly try though. They're selling this thing to people and it is not right. Not to mention the leaking.

Toyota 90363-45013. I’d like you to meet Tilton 62-612. I think you two are going to get along great.

Based on the reading here I feel I should be pretty selective with my choice of throw out bearing for my upcoming clutch replacement. I’ll be putting in a URD stage 3 but a bearing did not cone with the kit. Any recommendations for a specific brand or other parts that should be replaced while it is open (Like the fork)? I’m already planning on the rear main seal

*edit because I’ve now read through the entire thread and realized the existing TOB options are problematic and an available no fuss solution does not exist.

my second question still stands though!

What mileage are you at? I ask in regards to the rear main seal. Under 50k, I’d say leave it alone.

Your third gen Taco release bearing stuff is not all bad. If you’re doing this right away, just go new on an OE bearing. Otherwise, stay tuned.

Either way, fork replacement won’t be necessary.

    Edit: just thought of something.

If you believe the FSM, the flywheel bolts should be replaced every time.
