im thinking about getting a new MP3 player. Ive done some comparing and i believe i have settled on the Zune. Does anybody have any experiences with the zune? i have had an ipod before and to be honest, the whole idea of using itunes doesnt really appeal to me. just my preferences

i have the zune hd. im not sure which generation they are up to now, but this is the first gen touch screen that came out september 2009. (two septembers ago). I got it the day it came out it has been awesome. never let me down. the software is very easy to use. it also has the internet browser, hd radio, you can load movies and pictures on it, and it even automatically loads a biography for each artist you put on it. in my opinion, its jut as good as the itouch (if not better) and you dont have to deal with itunes and its cheaper too.

I have one of the older 80gb ones. I used it for music and porn on deployment. It did its job and since I have a hatred for apple it was all good. But once I got back to CONUS and used it to work out with the size got to me and the battery always ran out and never displayed an accurate amount of life left. Last week I bit the bullet and got one of those cool new nano's. It's rumored that microsoft will stop making zune hardware and only continue making the software if that matters to you.

I bought the Zune when they made the first generation. It's a freaking brick. Durable as hell. I've had no major problems with it. I would say go with the Zune. The software that you use that is similar to iTunes is also really easy. I would say it's better then iTunes. The new ones are nice and classy. Makes you stand out from most of the crowd out there. I'm a big advocate for the Zune.

Ditto, I have the zune as well. Never had a problem. And the best part is it's not an apple product.

yeah this is the exact model im looking at purchasing. how about in-car use? The only thing i saw for usage in a vehicle was the FM tuner. I imagine the sound woundnt be that great, but still i imagine it would be pretty good.

yeah, i had heard something along those lines from microsoft. But who knows. it seems like everyone these days is trying to compete with Apple. its nice to know that other companies are having success with products other than just apple.

yeah thats what orginially drew me to the zune. The fact that they arent as popular but do just as much if not more things than the ipod. individuality haha

FWIW I was surprised to find that I was able to configure itunes to NOT take over all of my music like I thought it would. So basically I still have total control via windows and can just run icrap when I want

You can also buy a head unit that has an AUX input jack so you can plug the headphone jack from the zune directly into the head unit. There are also head units out there that you can buy a cable for that connects to the plug that you use to plug connect it to your computer, that way you have the ability to hit the next, play, pause, etc button on the head unit rather then the actual device.

yes! this is my biggest problem. I always use windows stuff and icrap lol takes it all over and i dont know how to fix all the shit it messed up in the first place..how did you go about fixing it?

pretty nifty. I knew there were instances where i could purchase things like that. but im still running my stock HU and for right now i guess the cheapest fix would be the FM tuner until i could get a new HU

when I installed itunes it asked me if I wanted it to be the default player and I checked no. I also chose for it to not automatically sync when I plug my nano in. On top of that I found where it puts all the down converted music files on my computer, so I can use my regular wma ones or copy the converted ones to a cd without using itunes if I want. I did the same with my zune because when I play musice I like to right click on a folder and hit play with windows media player. Although lately I've been using slacker radio (which is better than pandora)
