ooh ooh I know this one! It's because handles usually outlast a file, so have a swappable file for a given handle makes sense (and saves the file co a buck or so)

LMAO. I know right? Those inserts have different patterns too to fit different file ends, star, wide, narrow...cool as hell.

(sort of silly to be excited about a file handle, but I live for this shit..ahahahahahhaha)

If you do a lot of filing, they are way more comfy. But at that point, I already have the flap disk out :sawzall:

Why, because my hands may be a little uncomfortable as I use a file? Oh nooooo.

It was when I was applying a zipdisk to a bicycle last week that I realized I may be a little overzealous.

Ah yeah, that wouldn't feel too great. I always have my welding gloves on anyway when I'm filing so I should be alright.

Mr. Elmo always said, make sure you have a handle on a file, especially when using on a LATHE....LMAO. Of course, if we still had shop classes, you'd know that right. HA!

I had shop class in middle and high school. But not on lathes, generally stuck to woodworking with planers, table saws, etc.

I thought the same thing for a long time.

Hand filing isn't really the problem. Using a file to chamfer/debur on a lathe while the part is spinning is a thing that happens. If the file catches and doesn't have a handle, no glove is going to protect you. It just becomes more stuff in the wound channel to dig out.

You should not have a glove on while operating a large or grinder. A kid grinding off half his thumb when the grinder grabbed his glove is why my high school killed the shop class.

Yeah. My main point was that a glove isn't going to save you in all instances.

I had a glove grabbed by a drill bit once working a drill press. It sucked my hand into the bit and put a pretty good gash on the back of my hand. I was wearing gloves handling the plates I was drilling and forgot to take them off.
