When filling, gas simply does not go in. Takes 20 minutes to fill the tank. Continues to backfeed at the handle.

I removed all vent hoses, blew with air, reinstalled. Replaced charcoal canister assy. Not sure what's next. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

No. Also, no codes. I've read some other posts on the same condition but they all seem open ended without a fix.

Tomorrow I will use a borescope and take a look. Yea, vent lines all clear. Also, the rollover valve has been replaced (looks newer and I've only had the truck for 6 months - my sons)

Try disconnecting the filler neck vent line and see if that makes a difference. It will set a couple of codes, but you can clear them as soon as you reconnect.

Another thing to consider. There is a metal flap valve on the tank itself where the filler neck connects. If that got stuck closed I could see gas being very slow to fill.

There are 2 vent lines coming from the filler neck.

Here is the update- filler neck clear, flapper valve at take opens/closed just fine (it's magnetic which I found interesting). The hose NEXT to the filler (vent hose to the right of the filler neck) that goes to the tank is interesting. The hose itself is clear (blew with air) but I stuck a pick in where it goes to the tank and it bottoms out. Should that simply go into the tank? Odd. It's almost like it's a dummy nipple. I tried to blow air into and it would not go.

UPDATE: Used a borescope and that tube is clear -it's just smaller at the point of entry so if you stick a pick in it - it would have to be exactly centered.

Getting ready to smoke the system now..

Smoking will reveal a leak in the evap system / head space above liquid gas. May not help with this issue. But I have experienced the same thing from the pumps at one gas station. Not sure if their shut off is messed up or what. But it is definately from the pumps at one gas station. My wife reports the same issue at the same gas station with 03 dodge durango.
I know it seems strange and I have never experienced before. But that's my latest experience.

No, I'm using smoke to simulate vapor pressure. (I am an ASE Master Tech so I do have experience with using it for leaks - just have not encountered this problem before)

When I did use smoke, I removed the outlet hose (to canister) from the fuel vapor shut off valve (on top of tank). Smoke did not penetrate the valve. That valve should open with slight pressure to allow vapors to enter the canister. I think I might replace it.

Ok got it. Interesting. I have thought about using a bycycle tire pump on the evap system schrader valve to check for leaks (with soapy water in squirt bottle) Not sure if that might work for you. I would not want to pressurize more then 5 psi. Interested to see what you find out

It shouldn't have to go more then 5psi. I'm actually not sure what pressure it takes to open the diaphragm; that type of stuff isn't published. There really isn't much to it; I almost think I'm looking to deep. I should just replace the valve and see what's up.

Update: Tried filling today again with the hose off that GOES from the fuel vapor shut off valve and it still did not fill. I' leaning towards replacing it; it's just not something common is what concerns me.

I'm sorry to hear that your having issues with filling up your truck, OP. I couldn't help but notice that your truck is a 2012. This is a 1st generation Tacoma forum (1995-2004). Maybe you might want to post this question on the 2nd generation Tacoma forum? I hope you don't take offense to my pointing this out.

You've been here longer than me. I've only been on the board for a couple of years and have taken interest in modding my Tacoma. I'm sorry I can't contribute to helping you with your problem since I have no experience with it.
