I have been driving around like this for about three weeks. My engine light was on at the time while awaited for an appointment for an extended warrantee job. ( secondary air injection pump recall). I didn’t notice until i hit the highway that it runs like garbage and that there was something else going on. The dealer found this when the mechanic did the warrantee job.

The hose is damaged too with the red marks on it- not sure what that’s for, it’s short and looks easily replaceable.

I am wondering how hard it is to take the intake off to get at that damage and splice the wires. I also want to look for more damage.

the vehicle currently can’t pick the right gear on slopes on the highway and I’m getting 100km less per tank right now.

Your insurance can sometimes cover this as well if the cost for repair is to much or you dont want or cant fix yourself. My buddy had this happen to his wife's jeep grand Cherokee and insurance picked up the tab.

Correct it does. Not sure if that’s the best option. A stain on my insurance or fox it myself? Trying to weigh options still at this point. Thanks

What's that, 5, 6 conductors? If that and the hose is all the damage, it's quick and easy to D-I-Y; 30 minutes max and you're back in business.

Generally an insurance claim under your comprehensive coverage will not raise your rates. I have submitted a couple claims under my comprehensive and never an increase in premiums. Check with your company.

Looks like 5, plus the hose. Hose doesn’t feel under pressure but I don’t know yet what it is so worried about pulling it off even though it’s damn near chewed through.. hmm.

the biggest part of the job is removing the intake to get at the wires. There isn’t quite enough room as is to splice them properly.

Another downside about insurance is I have no vehicle for 2 days and I need it for work.

Honestly, looks like a two beer job tomorrow after lunch. A pack of these, and the actual wire repair will be literally a 5-10 minute job. The hose, if you can't get an OEM/OEM style, you can almost certainly get a 'fits all' from a local parts supply house.

It would be that quick if I could get the crimpers in there. I don’t think I can get at the wires without removing the intake

Am I over thinking how the intake comes off? Is it easy? I wouldn’t get the butt connector on the upper side of the wires if I don’t take it off.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
That air intake comes off in 5 min. The hose is actually just cheap plastic conduit and you can pick up everything you need at the local auto store for less than $40. That being said. If you are concerned about remodeling the air injection system I would say best you leave this to someone else. Good luck.

This happen on my 1 st gen. the problem you have is there’s no wire left to work with. You will need to add wire.

No need to mess with the air injection pump. I had mentioned that it was in the dealer to do that recall when he found this.

I am worried that may be the case but as far as I can tell without taking the air intake off there is enough wire to get the connectors on and then I will just have to add a couple inches to where they chewed. Does anyone know a write up on removing the air intake?

Not trying to be rude bud, but if you need a writeup to remove the air intake you should not attempt this.

When I took mine to the dealer for an estimate, they said $1400. They said they had to replace the whole harness. They won’t splice wires. I took it to a small shop and it was $150. They did splice wires.
