Not really interested in the deep south so that's ok. Too hot for my taste.

As much as NY is truly a beautiful state, I recommend you avoid it. Housing is very affordable in most areas but the taxes are high. And not to get political, but lots of strict laws and poor government. Also taxes are set to increase even more. In a few years I may be looking for a new place to settle.

I was actually looking at upstate New York for a minute. The housing is cheap, the taxes are absolutely brutal. My mortgage payments would be the same as a house $75k more expensive somewhere else just from property tax. I may travel through just to explore and see it but sadly I think it got crossed off my list when I found that out.

Check out NH, above or near the notches (Crawford, Franconia, Pinkham).

No income or sales tax. Property taxes vary and can be high for some towns.

Winters aren’t what they used to be but we still get a decent amount of snow most years.

    The ocean’s nearby, mountains abound.

Surrounding states hate our state-run liquor stores with cut rate pricing :drunk:

    Life’s good:thumbsup:

I live in KY, but have a few acres in NC outside of Asheville to retire to. In terms of outdoor stuff to do and scenery it is a great area, but not the best area for employment opps. Charlotte is a couple hours away and is a good size city. You are a couple hours away from the mountains and a few hours from the coast. Summers are hot, but little snow in winter.

Thanks everyone for all the input! Getting a list going of places to check out. Planning on being on the road about a month and hoping to spend a few days in each area I'm interested in. Keep those ideas coming!

Do you love mosquitos, oppressive rainforest levels of heat and humidity 11 months of the year, and the the highest rate of per capita drunk driving in the known universe? Then do I have the state for you!

    Bienvenue en Louisiene!

    (The food's good though)

WI, IL are expensive for homes and property taxes.

Look to TN, KY, SC or NC. Weather is moderate, taxes are reasonable, homes prices are reasonable.

Sure.....until January/February Arctic weather arrives, when He77 freezes over. Then you have the July/August sauna weather, when He77 thaws.

    Can't forget the Tornado season.

West Virginia is actually on my list of states to check out. Maybe it's the fact it's so rural and forested but it is kinda appealing. Honestly though don't know much about it.

If I could I would move to the southern Appalachians region more than any other place in the US. I love the four corners and the Black Hills region, but wouldnt want to live in either.

And yes, Texas is full. My property taxes would appreciate it if the rest of you would kindly fuck off. :cookiemonster:
