Well, I've watched a coworker go through three different methods of attempting to cut 1 1/4 in steel. First a plasma cutter, then a portable band saw, now a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder. He has finally given up and will be trying the method I told him to use from the beginning. A torch. It's been an hour of him trying to hack through this thing...

That's perfect! Sounds like the guy they hired to help me. 35yr toolmaker he says. He'll be 70 or 71 this month.

 

The best part? This guy was an air force aircraft mechanic. Licensed and everything.
