5/20w oil in V6

I took my truck to the dealership today and had the oil changed. But while driving home I noticed that they put 5/20w in it. My owners manual says 5/30w is recommended for the V6 engine. I called them and explained this to them and they said they put 5/20w in all the vehicles and it would not be a problem in my V6. Just curious as to what people on here thought.

Google TSB EG018T06 and check to see if it is updated to apply to your 2009. I bet it is.

If after reading it, you don't think Toyota's engineers are smart enough to know if it's good enough for your truck, then ask yourself why you bought a Toyota.

 

They weren't smart enough to recommend it to begin with,were they?

 

They say the same thing when they overfill. manual states "Do not overfill oil it may damage engine". Stealership say it's ok.

 

I've been running Mobil1 5w-30 in my 2009 V6 for over two years just like the manual and crankcase oil fill cap say. I've been in ambient temperature ranges from a high of 108 degrees in south Louisiana this past summer to a low of -3 in northern Indiana this winter. I see absolutely no reason to change now. Maybe 5w-20 will be just fine, but I think I will stick with what I know works. That's the best answer I can give.

 

i run 0-30 all year.... so what go amsoil

 

0 anything is not gonna kill any motor ever

 

I run Mobil 1 0W-20 year round, which meets or exceeds 5W-20. I've never had a problem, winter or summer. Then again, I wouldn't expect to have a problem with 5W-30, 0W-30, 5W-20......

OP : don't worry at all. You'll be fine. If it works good for you, keep using that grade forever. It's gonna help your gas mileage. Truth is modern engines can use 0w20, 0w30, 5w20, 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, Straight 30, 10w40 without damaging your engine.

To all the pin Heads out there!!! Andrew asked a simple question and he should get a straight answer.. If You think this subject was beat to death. Then go to a different site or what ever you do to satisfy yourself. We have enough sarcasm in this world and BS to last a life time.
