Just curious what the difference is between a shackle that pivots off the frame upwards vs downwards and what it's actually called.

lol I'm lost too. If I had the names of the type of shackles I could try and look them up but I don't even have that.

Most first sua gens run a regular hanging 12” shackle from above the frame except for those running the Giant 64 kit which runs an inverted shackle. @Anthony250 said that’s the best kit he’s seen on a first gen if I remember correctly. Most 2nd gen sua kits are inverted shackle, but @81Trekker / JD fab just prototyped a hanging shackle sua kit for newer trucks.

Hanging shackles allow for a much more natural movement of the springs and as a result the ride is a lot more plush and the springs are very sensitive. The other huge benefit of the hanging shackles is you do not have the boat anchor shackle mounts that hang way below the frame... not only do they get hung up on rocks they also put a ton of leverage on the frame as the pivot point is so far below the frame

    I love you.
haha, but seriously thank you. I'm on the fence about making different rear hangers. I was thinking it would be easier if I had the type that pivot downwards so I could adjust the ride height by changing the shackle length.

    Something like this vvvvv

I did this... Uniball shackles with adjustable height positions and the hanger it’s self can move forward and back to change spring rate

Nice! That's what I'm looking to do! I like how you can adjust with that extra hole too.
Is that 3/16 or 1/4? I have both sizes at work I can print out.

What magic number are you using front spring eye to shackle mount eye?

I'm running the same springs and 52.5" spread with 12" shackles. I shot video of the rear and it seems the shackle is moving more than the springs creating a pretty shitty ride. I bought the truck with this set up 11 years ago but just installed the Deavers. From the custom pack I had I lost 3" of ride height. Because of how the shackle is mounted tied to the bed cage it would be impossible to move.

Do you have a pic of the rear. Mine rides super nice I’m only using a 10 shackle it pulls a strong 19 inches of travel I have it paired with a 5 tube king with finned res 3.0 it was a nightmare to clear the shocks without running a wheel spacer but they clear at all angles and no spacer. It’s one of the Currie axles that slightly extended

Nothing is impossible. But ya I opted to mount mine lower to use a shorter shackle. It just what I thought would work. I’m by no means a expert fabricator but I can do some basic shit I did the entire rear myself. I do have access to expensive tools is my main advantage. I would first check your alignment on the rear end and see what your thrust angle is and go from there u might be able to move the fronts if u can’t do the rear if they do indeed need moving
