this is idiotic. The airbag will deploy just fine. It pushes the door seal/weatherstrip and the edge of the a-pillar cover apart and comes out through the gap. There is no reason the handle would change any of that. Airbags deploy with incredible force, no amount of a-pillar plastic, even if it was captured by the door itself, would prevent it from deploying.

You made a thread before about this same shit and then made another one, with a useless email from Toyota that says nothing surprising or of any use to anyone. Couldn't you just have added that info to the other thread?

    Time for containment threads?

Did anybody else think this part was hilarious.... As in, if you tell us that you might mod your vehicle, we wont forget... we promise.

What a boring and paranoid life you must live. If you have such a problem with it don't buy it. If you bought it and are this scared throw it in the trash. If you're just trying to save someone hit up the NTSB. Posting trash here isn't going to move the needle or help you.

Isn't this a risk that we take when we mod our vehicles? It is also pretty obvious that Toyota will not be liable for anything aftermarket related, especially for this specific topic.

Do I risk airbag possibly not deploying correctly due to an aftermarket grab handle?
Yes? Buy and install the mod.
No? Don't by and move on to the next mod on the list.
Undecided? Wait until more proven evidence to tip the scales towards your purchase decision.

Going to be hard to proceed in verifying and convincing others on how safe these handles are, with just examples from prior Toyotas. And i don't think anyone with a handle will be willing to go and deploy their own airbags for the sake of science.

Maybe a lot of this stems from the general distrust users are having with KTJO.

You can argue all you want, but there is no getting around the fact that this mod could potentially affect the airbag safety system as it was designed to operate. Maybe it will and then again maybe it won't! Like with anything in life, make your choices that align with your risk tolerance level. I for one have never understood this mod; the steering wheel works just fine if I need a little help getting up into the truck. Been doing this my whole life and have not broken or affected a steering wheel yet.

I’ve only used the grab handle in my 2nd gen once. I tried it and it feels so awkward.

"Mommy!!!!! Katie made a grab handle for the truck!!!!!"

I hope you've also reported the steering wheel Toyota emblem cover that is being sold that will become a flying logo of death when the air bag deploys, too.

Just when I think I've seen it all.............................

Canned corporate response. I wouldn't expect anything else from Toyota.

The look of having a handle on the passenger side and not the driver side really bothers me lol. I’m all about the looks btw
