How long should an OEM battery last?

Had the OEM on the 16 and it lasted till I got rid of the truck last month. I live in cooler climates though. I could feel it struggle a tiny bit starting towards the end. I just changed out my OEM for a x2 Northstar on my 19 with 400 miles. Might run OEM battery in parallel and keep it in the back to help run stuff. I may not need it though with the 27f size deep cycle.

 

My 2016 factory battery died in May 2017 at 8,000 miles.

 

Mine made it 1800 miles. Got another one from Toyota. Its an 84 month (prorated) battery IF you buy it. However if it is a warranty replacement it is only warrantied for the remainder of your 3/36 warranty. Thanks Toyota.

Had a Interstate battery sales guy once tell me that more batteries fail in October than in any other month due to the onset of colder temps.

2015 Tacoma that I bought in November 2014. Still seems fine, almost 100k. I might change it out before the snow flies, though.

 

I'm at 39k miles with the truck being 4.5yrs old... I'm thinking I should just change it out...

 

Change it. Going on 5 years with any battery is a good long life for a battery. Change it at 5 years and you won’t have to worry about it failing you at a bad time and a bad place.

 

Add me to the list of replacement battery. 2018 Tacoma with 7,500-ish miles. Purchased January 2019. It was on the dealer lot for 11 months. The battery born on date is 1/06/18. So three years is about right. But I have been having problems with this battery since April 2020. Had to jump start it after it sat for over a week. And slow cranking ever since. So I guess I am fortunate that it lasted as long as it did. This last time, it sat for four days. Both jumps were on cold days, but this is California. "Cold" is only in the 40's.

I just replaced it with a Autozone Duralast Platinum AGM 24F. We'll see how it goes. This truck does not see much duty or extreme temps so should last a while.

 

My OEM battery failed after about a year. I was out of town, and happened to across the street from the dealership when it happened (no warning signs to speak of). They jump started it and checked everything out the next day, replaced the battery under warranty, and upgraded the battery in the process at no charge. This was actually one of the few positive dealership interactions I've had (Greely, CO). Now that I think about it, all my out of state dealership experiences have been good. It's all the local ones that have been horrid.

oEM battery died at 4 years with 19k miles.

 

2017 SR Lasted a whole 18 mths.

 

Battery died at 29k miles but they wouldn’t warranty it due to my sub woofer being wired to it ‍♂️... Bosch AGM has not had an issue n the last 20k miles and it has a lot more responsibility on its shoulders now than the Toyota one did.

 

My expectation is that a new battery should last 4 years given normal usage (no added accessories). I've never had a battery fail in under 5 years. I replace every 5 years regardless.

 

My battery died week ago, truck bought in the end of july 2020. Replaced battery by myself, dont even want to waste my time with dealership, they will replace it with the same crap.

 

64,000 miles, put new one in mine yesterday. Had it since April 2017.

 

I will never understand on battery thread why anyone posts their mileage as an indicator of how long their battery lasts. Your battery will last the same if you drive 3 miles a day or 300. What kills your battery more than anything is temperature extremes with heat being worse than cold.

 

Depends on a bunch of things. How's the trucked used? What's the climate like in your area? If only used on short trips around town it most likely not going to last as long as one in a vehicle that gets regularly taken on longer trips. Extreme heat or cold will decrease the life of them. I had a 2001 toyota echo I had bought new. That batter lasted to 180,000 miles (about 8 years). I sold the car before needing a battery. It was crazy. I have a 80 mile round trip drive for work. My current honda (a 2015 model) only lasted about 80,000 miles (about 4 years) but also has a ton more electronics in it. Not sure if that makes a difference or maybe the newer batteries are just garbage.

 

Heck, the original telco battery in my 2001 tundra lasted 9 years. I replaced it with a deka...it was still performing fine till this time last year when i sold the truck. 5 years seems too early to change out a battery.

 

Well my 2011 V6 battery failed at about 5 years and I'm on the other end of the spectrum I live in Maine winter temps below zero are common the replacement battery is still working fine. It is a tow package so it does have a group 27 battery so I guess I can't call them junk oem or the replacement.
