How would you react to a parts warehouse manager smoking weed on the job and leaving his stash and pipe behind at a big diesel shop?

Working under the influence is against most companies' policies. Probably buddies with the owner.

Alcohol is a far more harmful and dangerous drug to worry about. I'm in construction and many co workers smoke weed on the job and some are flat out intoxicated from alcohol. I prefer working with someone doing neither, that said, If I have to choose, give me the guy smoking pot.

Here’s my one problem with company pot rules. You can get blind drunk on the weekends. But if you show up reasonably sober Monday you’re good to go.

If you smoke pot Friday after work and you are not even the least bit impaired on Monday but get tested you’ll be fired

Pot is legal here. Yet an employer can fire you for using it six weeks earlier. Not so with alcohol.

Try working for a defense contractor. There was a page on my Lockheed orientation handbook that stated specifically that regardless of state laws, as a contractor of the federal government we follow federal laws. Was the same when I moved to Raytheon. So no green for me until it's federally legal. Not that I'd have the time anyway lol

Yup, ATK and Boeing as well (at least used to be). Did/do they randomly test you too?

Same for federal employees. I hear it all the time from my team in DC. I’m like “I’m in Texas, wah.”

I was about LM for about 6 years, and I never got randomly tested. Thought it might have just been a rumor and they never actually did it, then my buddy I share a cube with got a phone call 'Come to the health center right now, don't stop anywhere on the way'. So turned out they do test occasionally haha

I'm fine with leaving it in my college years, honestly. I have a 1 year old, and another one on the way, so my money and time goes to other things. It would probably help with anxiety though. If it ever gets treated as actual medication, covered by insurance and all, maybe I would again. Probably not again as recreation though.

It happened once a month for us, normally 2-3 people. In 2 years only 1 young kid got caught.

I'd much rather have a cold beer than smoke up. I know alcohol is usually a worse addiction, but I know a couple people who won't even leave the house until they're completely baked.

Being selected for drug testing is matter of someone suspecting or just the normal selection probability. Really not worth it in the long run. Plus drugs impairs clear rational thought.

Wasn't the case for my situation. Guy that got picked was the most straight arrow in our group. Went through our future leadership course when he was still in college, favorite of all the upper level management, etc. Teacher's pet kind of guy. It was definitely random.

I've seen both. Sometimes management is gunning for someone, other times it just misfortune. Either way, being clean means no worries.
