It’s probably wise that you waited. While I love the look of those predator steps, I cringe every time I read a post from someone mentioning how you can rip your rocker panels off if you bottom out or snag them on a rock while off road. Now granted, I am no rock crawler and honestly have no desire to be, but I do drive on some sketchy mountain roads for hunting season and it is entirely possible to snag one of those steps if the conditions are bad or if not paying attention to the ruts on the sides of the “road”. If mine hadn’t come with the truck, I may have chosen differently. It’s honestly a love/hate thing I have going on with those predator steps.

Yes, I have read the debates on TacomaWorld about that issue, and see both sides of the arguments. But I like both the appearance and function of the steps, and my off-roading will probably be mostly confined to the beaches of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have been there many times with a friend who has the step bars and never encountered a situation where there appeared to be much risk of damage due to the steps.

But it will probably be a few more weeks until I make up my mind and pull the trigger on the purchase.

I would like to find something like cable steps on some off-road dump trucks. They flex when going over rocks.

I actually said something similar in another thread. I wish they made these with either spring loaded steps or even better if the steps were able to be removed by some sort of quick release system of sorts.

I could see something like Predator steps but with a hinge that is spring loaded in the up position and you could step on it to pull it down when stepping up on it. Or a quick on/off bolt attachment to sliders like you said.

There has got to be some fab guys here that could do it.
